I am SO CONFUSED!! TPC and Wunderground have this thing going out to sea, Accuweather shows it crossing right over us, and an hour ago a Brevard County EOC rep appeared on WFTV stating that barrier island evac orders may begin as early as MONDAY!

If you don't live in Florida you probably don't understand the joy of having a wind-less day of sunshine without worrying if you have to go through a major hurricane preparation.
Up in the Panhandle people are now going through utility-less disaster trying to get the first step on a nightmare they always knew was possible but when it arrives is still unbelieveable and difficult to cope with. Hurricanes are the polar opposite of the usually idyllic climate that exists down here...

LOL I thought I was HEARING things. I heard that on CH 9 early this morning. I don't know about you SeaBrz, but I am not going ANYWHERE Monday. It will take me 4 months to recover from the last evacuation. If I have to leave this time, I am just gonna keep going...

This season has been so amazing.
If not for the destructive nature of some of these storms, I fear many would ignore evacuation orders. We went a lot of years here in FL with no storms and many never experienced one before.
Hopefully people will heed evac orders since there have been many false alarms; Dade being evacuated for Francis was ultimately not needed and The Keys for Ivan was based on a very tenuous 5 day forecast that proved very wrong.
Will people in The Keys pay attention next time???
I hope so but if I lived there I might wait a bit longer.....next time

the evac east of U.S. 1 for Dade was the dumbest thing I have seen all year. And I can say that I'm not the only one who feels that way. We were never at risk for anything more than a minimal TS, which we didnt even come close to getting in South Miami. We may have had a severe thunderstorm, but the squall line from Charley was 10X worse.
I can say that Pinellas has 0 chance of ever receiving my vote after that total and useless evac

Yeah well, Pinellas never had a chance to get my vote anyway. I'd vote for W before I would vote for him.

They're not afraid of your vote Derek, they're afraid of the liability of a freak turn towards Miami.
Jeanne doesn't have quite as much spin today. She's moved NW off Hispaniola, but doesn't look caught in anything determinable.
The flow on visible to her NW is either a border off Ivan or the first hints of another ridge wedging-in above her. There's a real shear just on her north edge, but low shear on her bottom.
All this and she could still die-off for lack of favorable conditions...
