Karl Moving Westward!

#1 Postby TampaFl » Sat Sep 18, 2004 3:29 pm

It now appears that Karl is moving westward. Will this trend continue and be a threat to the Islands? Thoughts and comment welcomed.

Nope.

It's worth keeping half an eye on the system behind him, though.

Not sure that you can say this off a few frames west, few frames clearly WNW...overall, i think the motion is WNW and it's only a matter of time,..but there is always the question ...What if?

As track forecasts go, Karl is easy. He'll be recurving between 45 and 50W.

The one behind (Lisa-to-be) is a little harder to call. I think we may see a slight Fujiwara effect with Karl, swinging her just south of west in the area around 35 to 40W. That should keep her tracking far enough south to get to the islands, IMHO.

Fujiwara would send "Lisa" north and Karl south...as it is a counterclockwise circulation (Humberto and Iris 1995 or Gil and Henriette 2001)...but a Fujiwara seems unlikely due to Karl's projected latitude...

you've got to admit, with such major uncertainty about Jeanne, it's very easy to wonder if the NHC really DOES have a lock on Karl's future.....
