Im sorry, but you have to ask yourself "is it really worth this destruction just to live on the coast?" FOr me, its a no brainer, absolutely hell no its not.

Don't need to be on the coast.
I'm much happier, eher. Doesn't take too long to get to the beach.
Plus....
If I want, I can watch the sunrise over the Atlantic, have a leisurely breakfast, then meander west to watch the sunset over the gulf and have a magnificent seafood dinner.
I have no intention of leaving Florida. (and I came here against my will as a teen!)

I have owned a home on the beach in Biloxi Ms since 1976, and have been through a plethora of hurricanes..... every time I look out my front windows, I see an absolutely incredible view of the GOM.... I could not live anywhere else... ask anyone who has lived on the beach, there is no way I could be happy living anywhere except on the beach... every several years I have to go through some kind of hurricane threat, but since Camille in 69, I have not had any damage to my house... and yes it is quite stressful going through the hurricane events, but it does not happen that often and the rewards are more than worth it... remember, to suffer catastrophic house damage you really need to be in the east eye wall of a hurricane, and it usually is not that big of an area, and I'm 20 feet above sea level, so its going to take a Cat 5 to get water that high... .. the biloxi area has not seen that type of scenario since Camille relative to a major storm, a 100 year storm .... we have been very fortunate in my area of Biloxi, and maybe one day out time will run out, like the unfortunate folks in the FL panhandle with Ivan... but I would not have it any other way.... I really feel so lucky to be living on the beach..... and will accept what ever nature has to serve up my way... I have never made an insurance claim living on my house... and I hope I never have to.....

not live on the beach.... NEVER..
