EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
HURRICANE KARL
NJN WEATHER CENTER
945 AM TUES SEPT 21ST 2004
Hurricane Karl blossomed overnight to a strong Cat 4 hurricane with winds over 140 mph. This makes it even better that he is a threat to no one with an apparent NNW movement. Karl is showing great status as a hurricane and could reach Cat 5 but only if he does it in a hurry as he will be entering cooler waters the next few days.
Karl continues to tug little sister Lisa behind him.. But Lisa is expected to skirt underneath and continue her westward movement allowing Karl to go out into the open ATL.
Karl is now the season's 4th Category 4.. Charley, Frances, Ivan and Karl were all Category 4 storms at 1 time and Ivan even made Cat 5 strength several times.
Karl should begin to die out in the next couple days.
Here is the forecast on Karl:
Today: Still dangerous. Good thing he's way out there. Max Winds: 145 mph
Wednesday: Starting to move more poleward. Max Winds: 135 mph
Thursday: Beginning to accelerate into the colder ATL. Max Winds: 115 mph
Friday: Well East of Bermuda or any land. Max Winds: 115 mph
Saturday: Extratropical or close to it. Max Winds: 85 mph
Forecast and track errors are subject to as many as several hundred miles.
