30N 90W: How far west is trouble?

#1 Postby LSUChamps0002 » Sun Sep 12, 2004 5:59 pm

Ok, This is a serious question, even though it is a new thread, on the tracking of Ivan.

I'm in New Orleans - 90W on the big map. When this turn happens, how far west until I'm in some kind of trouble here. Meaning ....

It's at 82.5W as of the 5 pm advisory. 30N and 90W is the magic number, or at least mine. If it turns at 85W, am I ok? What about 87W? I just would like to have an idea as to how far west before the turn is too late.

Any good info would be appreciated. Any negative remarks are fine too, although a little less appreciated.

Nice screenname, I love it.

As far as your question, it's the million dollar question. It's impossible to know. It could come all the way to 90W and then turn NE. It's a wait and see game right now.

right now your on the extreme west side of cone which hasn't changed much last couple of adviories. At this point I would just wait another day, its poking along at a measly 10 mph, so 10 hrs from now it will be 100 miles from where it is now.
If it gets past 90 w long did I would be ready to get out. If it stays at 87 long or east you'll be okay. But who knows right now as i type this response it looks to be moving between wnw and nw, I would expect a gradual curve to the tip of cuba which is right at 85 w long and then nnw then n and possibly nne, at least that's what their saying. If the nhc moves the cone further west I would start to be more concerned.

Just remember though, if Ivan does get pass 90 west and turns north, the same feature that turns Ivan to the north could also continue turning him to the northeast and away from New Orleans. I told my parents this weekend though, if Ivan does begin to head north around 90, get the heck out.

If it goes south of 23N and 87W...watch out in the Big Easy.

Looks like Ivan made it past 90W after all.
