EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
TROPICAL STORM LISA
HURRICANE KARL
NJN WEATHER CENTER
3PM THURS SEPT 23RD 2004
Due to the nature that both these storms are headed poleward and will be history soon.. They have been merged into 1 outlook.
Karl is still a strong Category 3 hurricane with winds of 120 mph. But the further north he goes.. the more he will lose tropical characteristics. In fact the NHC says this could happen in 24 hours. I'll say closer to 30-36.
Lisa is a weak and what has turned out to be whimpy tropical storm. Kinda like the little blonde haired sister who thinks she needs everyone to bow down and do things for her. Lisa is barely a TS with winds of only about 45 mph. She is fighting to keep her tropical status as well. Lisa is being ripped apart by shear and a disorganized center.
The forecast for both of these is simple. Karl will continue to accelerate northward and become just a strong gale center with due time. Lisa will do it a little more slowly, but she is forecast to also head north. There was some speculation this morning she'd find a way to stay underneath both highs.. But that is now highly unlikely.
These 2 storms should both be around in 2010 when they come back up, because even though Karl was strong he didn't harm anyone. Lisa was just a wannabe hurricane when she was at 70mph and never got there.
Current forecasts for Karl:
Today: Continued acceleration and weakening, north move. Max Winds: 110 mph
Friday: More weakening and north movement. Max Winds: 90 mph
Saturday: No longer tropical, still north. Max Winds: 70 mph
Sunday: Up near no mans' land. Max Winds: 55 mph
Monday: Off the satellites. Max Winds: 45 mph
Current forecasts for Lisa:
Today: Still disorganized.. no threat. Max Winds: 50 mph
Friday: Showing signs of moving poleward. Max Winds: 55 mph
Saturday: Starting to accelerate a little. Max Winds: 60 mph
Sunday: Racing behind to maybe try to catch Karl. Max Winds: 65 mph
Monday: Still well away from any land. Max Winds: 70 mph
{Please excuse my Lisa forecast if it sounds horrendous. Most of my attention is on Jeanne.. :wink}
