Am I better off in Key Biscayne or Amelia Island?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Am I better off in Key Biscayne or Amelia Island?

#1 Postby dwang » Thu Sep 23, 2004 9:48 am

Next monday, I will start my 2 week vacation. I currently have reservations in Amelia Island, but I am thinking of cancelling them and instead, go to Key Biscayne (Miami area). Which location will be impacted by Jeanne more than the other? Any help would be appreciated.

I would say that if the models continue to hold where they are at now then a vacation to Key Biscayne would be much better.

I live on Amelia Island, looks to me as if Key Biscayne is the place to be. If all holds it will be upon us Monday YIKES!!! If it changes I'm sure you'll have a great vacation here, the island is beautiful (kind of Mayberry like, but nice)

Too early to tell. Its almost directly due east of the Key right now (25.6 N), basically at the same position that Andrew was in 1992. Whether or not she turns northwest before reaching south florida will all depend on the strength of the high pressure ridge above her and/or her speed.

Thanks for the replies. I will wait another day or 2 before making my final decision.

this morning iw ould have said biscayne but after seeing the latest gfs and ukmet i would say amelia..at least it would be weakened although amelia is really low and flooding would be a concern..wait until tomorrow..models have been coming west nd will continue too per the latest gfs.

I'd go for Naples or Sanibel/Captiva Island, personally, rather than risk having my vacation ruined.

For future reference...don't plan vacations on FL coastal areas during hurricane season. <grin>

Just kidding...I think you are wise to wait and see. Currently the more Southerly track seems more advisable, but the fact is nobody has the slightest idea.
