Key Biscanye Campout

#1 Postby ObsessedMiami » Thu Sep 23, 2004 3:16 pm

Hi everyone.
I have a Cub Scout family camping overnighter scheduled for Saturday into Sunday on Key Biscayne. We are having our pack meeting tonight and I wondered if anyone had a guess as to what kind of conditions we would be dealing with, even if the storm doesnt impact us directly. I guess my question is, will the system no matter where it hits make tent camping an ordeal?

if this close anywhere close to Miami-Dade there is a better than not chance that KB will be mandatory evacuation

Not to mention why take the chance with the kids if she does a Charley at the last minute.

My thinking exactly... but I wanted some ammunition for the meeting tonight.
Thanks to you all

Assuming it stays north... rain. Rain... and more rain. Crazy surf that you won't want anyone getting anywhere near. And maybe a little wind. Of course, if it goes even a little bit south, you're looking at 10 foot storm surge, 20 foot waves, and winds to 100mph. I wouldn't want to be the guy who had to look after a bunch of kids in (airborne) tents in that kind of situation. ;)

Plus there are the racoons, who may be a little bit angry that they didn't get to Home Depot in time to board up the trash bins.

Thre are TONS of racoons at that campsite! Anyway, Roland Steadham said Max Mayfield told him tomorrow AM he would issue a Hurricane watch for SFL and perhaps a warning by 5pm, so no campout for sure....
