WEATHER SUMMARY THROUGH NEXT 72 HOURS

Yes, there is a warm-core, convective circulation over the central Gulf of Mexico that is a spin-off of monster Hurricane Ivan. I do not think this system should be called Ivan, if only because the bulk of the storm transferred to a cold-core entity which eventually hammered the Northeast and eastern Canada with heavy rainfall.

That said, "Ivan Jr." is experiencing vertical shear on its southern flank and should not intensify to hurricane status. On its current westward trajectory (set to recurve toward the north tonight into the Piney Woods of TX), heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms should occur from LA into E TX before the circulation starts to break up over the Red River Valley on Day 3.
