Frederic had a 943 pressure at landfall with 126 knot winds reported at Dauphin Island- yikes! The surge was high in Gulf Shores- about 12 feet. I think Ivan was about 10 feet based on data from me being there for Ivan.
Indeed, Frederic was a monster hurricane that likely still holds the benchmark for folks in Alabama and Mississippi in the post-Camille era.
Just something to think about...
No question about it- Frederic was stronger than Ivan
