Past Advisories and Hurricane Footage-Video Records

#1 Postby DoctorHurricane2003 » Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:37 pm

Who else here, when a depression/storm/hurricane pops up, puts a video into their VCR and records the advisories, and if it threatens land, the footage? If so, what years do you have?

For me it started in 1995 when I got the idea "Instead of tracking it on pieces of paper, why don't I just record it on a blank video?" (I was 8) That was as then Tropical Storm Erin was moving off the west coast of FL and started to head towards Pensacola.

My Records:

1995
Hurricane Erin-Hurricane Luis
Hurricane Flossie-Hurricane Juliette

1996
Tropical Storm Arthur-Tropical Storm Josephine +1 Advisory Hurricane Lili
Hurricane Alma-Tropical Storm Genevieve

1997
Tropical Storm Ana-Hurricane Erika
Tropical Storm Andres-Tropical Storm Olaf

1998* (First year I got ALL Systems)
Tropical Storm Alex-Tropical Storm Nicole
Tropical Storm Agatha-Hurricane Madeline

1999
Tropical Storm Arlene-Hurricane Lenny
Hurricane Adrian-Tropical Storm Irwin

2000
Hurricane Alberto-Tropical Storm Nadine
Hurricane Aletta-Tropical Storm Rosa

2001
Tropical Storm Allison-Hurricane Olga
Hurricane Adolph-Hurricane Octave

2002
Tropical Storm Arthur-Tropical Depression 14
Hurricane Alma-Tropical Storm Lowell

2003
Tropical Storm Ana-Tropical Storm Peter
Tropical Storm Andres-Hurricane Patricia

2004
Hurricane Alex-Tropical Storm Otto

I have Hurricane Elana on tape that was threating the West Coast of Fl (Tampa/ST. Pete) on Labor Day weekend of 1985!. I taped Channel 13, then a CBS affiliate & now a Fox affiliate, with Roy Leep. He was a legned here from 1957 to when he retired in 1997. He was their Chief Meteorologist at Channel 13 for 40 years! A ledgend in his time. That is a long time for television at one station. he is retired & lives here in Tampa.

I don't remember a Tropical Storm Lowell in 2002. I experienced Hurricane Lili in 2002 first hand. I'm confused on the TS Lowell thing?

I have the entire 1985 season on video...I was 16 and a severe weather geek. I used to even record AM weather on PBS. Of course...that was before the internet and data was limited to say the least.

Got any old Weather Channel updates from John Hope in 95-99 era? He was great.

Yeah the first group of names under a year are the Atlantic storms, the second are the East Pacific storms.

I have over 60 hours of tv footage from Hurricane Andrew, ranging from The Weather Channel advisories to local news reports. I also videotaped extensively in South Dade after Andrew.

Floyd was nicknamed "flood" here and with good reason. The building I live in was high and dry but the one across the street from me was Floyded...err flooded; residents had to be evacuated on fire trucks. Other areas received moderate to severe flooding. As bad as it was here it was much much worse in NC

Wow. It's so nice to see that I'm not alone. I recorded CNN round-the-clock last year during Hurricanes Francis, Ivan and Jeanne and recorded Hurricane Isabel's landfall in 2003.

I would be interested in seeing the footage from Andrew if you ever get that on your site or on DVD or something. I recorded the event from Tropical Storm Andrew to the night Hurricane Andrew arrived. I lost power at 2:00am during the Hurricane, and missed the entire landfall and a couple of days of the aftermath.

When I was a kid I got a tape recorder as a gift and recorded Hurricane David advisories and news, way back in 1979. Also, I got Hurricane Allen, and still have the tape cassetts 25 years later!.
