The primo link for high-res SST's...

Lots of people view OTIS and some of the digitized graphics sites whose SST's look like cartoons. This site is the best of the best. It updates 4 times a day with the sat passes, but sometimes (like quickscat) a portion could be missed. Also clouds do occlude the readings below them, but you get the idea:

Yeah, I've had that one for a couple years. If you go to the site,
you can get whatever area you want (northern Gulf Stream,
Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico). Since the feeds alternate between
Channel 4 and Channel 2 every other pass, I'm guessing
that it's a piggyback on one of the GOES sats. (?)

Anyway, it's an awesome tool a day or so in advance of a storm
to see where the really hot eddys (sp?) are.

Thanks for the link. Really more detail than is needed day to day, but as you said this could be real handy in locating hot spots in a storm's track.

I especially like the 3-day moving composites of SST from that site. You don't have the readings obscured by cloudcover, and the resolution is fascinating in its detail.
