00Z GFS - 108 hours out

1004MB low on the northern GOM - it doesn't look like it will be much.

Isn't 108hrs out a bit long to judge its strength? Much less path and/or whether or not its even going to be there?

Exactly - it's a guess four days out right now.

There's growing convection in the NW Carribean, so it does warrant watching, but I'm not very concerned at this point.

I believe its preciptiable waters index....could be wrong. One of the mets might have a better answer.

How much rainfall could POSSIBLY fall.

Its is like an Atmosphere moisture gauge. The higher the number, the more likely you get rain. Thats my understanding of it. Again, hopefully Derek or someone (I pick Derek becuase I know he is on right now) will give a more concise answer...

Things are looking a little more interesting in the Caribbean this morning. For the Canadian and GFS to both grab on to something like this is good enough for me. Gut feeling: pretty much the GFS solution, SE LA/MS, 45kt.

The colors represent the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) for the 6-hour period ending, in this case, at 108 hours. The scale is in inches of precipitation (water). So, if one saw 1.00, that would indicate that 1.00" of precipitation is forecast for the 6-hour period ended at 108 hours.
