The one thing that drove me nuts about Georges - the pronunciation of it.

In each Advisory, they had put in "pronounced ZORCH"

Locals still call it george or george-ess

Here in Puerto Rico they called it Georges in september 1998 and still now they call it that way.

I think the correct pronunciation is "zhorzh".

I kinda like the name. Another hurricane name I thought sounded cool was Luis.

To me, Georges is a very underrated storm. I know many may disagree, but think about it. At the end of the season, Georges was pretty much overshadowed by Mitch.

Yet, Georges pretty much plowed through the Caribbean, making landfall after landfall; The eye traveled the entire length of Puerto Rico, thus causing more destruction than Hugo; Struck the U.S. twice; Caused 602 deaths, making it the deadliest Caribbean hurricane since David in 1979; Georges caused $5.9 billion in damage to the U.S. and territories.

Basically, Jamaica and the lower Windward Islands were the only Caribbean places spared by Georges.

To me, Georges took what was probably the worst path through the Caribbean.

To me, Hurricane Georges was a classic Cape Verde hurricane.

Since the moment that strong wave was emerging west Africa and John Hope showed the loops I said to my family that the wave would be a big problem for Puerto Rico because of it's low latitud center and 7 days later really it was a monumental problem.

Georges was definitely a memorable storm for me even though he didn't hit me. I was just in awe of his journey through the Caribbean.
