Record Rainfall vs. Activity (Perry?)

#1 Postby sfwx » Wed Jun 29, 2005 12:48 pm

The NWS in Melbourne listed the following records for June rainfall:

RECORD RAINFALL AMOUNTS FOR JUNE ARE AS FOLLOWS:

DAB 15.44 INCHES (1930)
MCO 18.28 INCHES (1968)
MLB 15.98 INCHES (1966)
VRB 20.73 INCHES (1972)

I checked the tropical activity for those years and there were 2, 11, 8, and 4 named storms respectively for those years. All of the years had storms affect the CONUS and in all of those years there were storms that affected Florida. (Especially 1968) I did notice that some of the years had storms that were unnamed. (Why did they do this?)

Also, was there only two storms in 1930? Of the 8 storms in 1968, were any storms larger than Cat 1?

Thanks!
