Well the earliest major hurricane to make landfall in Puerto Rico was on the 8th of August,1899 a cat 4 140 mph which killed around 3,500 people and it has been the worse disaster that this island has been thru in terms of lose of life.

Barbados

For Barbados ... there was only one landfalling hurricane in the 20th Century and none this century. that was Hurricane Janet, Sep 22, 1955.

However, Barbados has been affected by others which came close.
