Was this slow down expected?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Was this slow down expected?

#1 Postby seahawkjd » Thu Jul 07, 2005 8:14 am

I see that Dennis is now moving 10 mph. Was this projected to happen and is weakness in the ridge what is causing the slow down and the more poleward track? I know 10 mph isn't all that slow, but it is considerably slower then the storm had been moving.

I know it was forecast to slow though I'm not sure of the expected magnitude of it.

So is the ridge supposed to fill back in or is this going to plow over central Cuba?

It's supposed to fill back in they say... but it will still plow over Cuba.... The Ridge is supposed to be so strong that some models have taken the hurrican all the way to Colorado after landfall.... Riiiiiight.

It looks like Cindy is breaking down the ridge a bit right now. Is it supposed to fill back in?

So should we expect tropical watches / warnings to be issued for Denver?

Has it occured to any of you that the energy and rain from the storm COULD make it that far over without it being a tropical storm? It is a long shot but if the ridge is building to the north as they say it is, and will be as strong as predicted, it could make a push pretty far west after landfall....
