Old GO PBI is still around now Storm 2005

The shirt I won was too small and also not entirely clean. Think it was a storm2000 shirt. Those were the days (not!)

Yeah, I started there too, don't remember what year. Had to be about '99. Same ID as I use here. If I recall, my first post was a rant about Dr. Gray, and I nearly started World War III.

The biggest problem with that board, obviously, was that there were no moderators. I mean you could contact them, and maybe they would get around to doing something half a day later or so, but it was pretty much the wild west. Anyone could get away with anything. Don't know if they ever fixed that, but the traffic on the board now is almost nothing.

That, and the site was constantly going down, especially when there was a storm near and the traffic picked up. And if it wasn't down, it was abysmally slow.

I still get my email alerts from them, though.

I remember the PBI boards too and I cannot even remember my old username. I started in '97 and recognize a lot of the same usernames from way back then.

I think the last time I posted was in 2002. I caused the controversy of the year (or so it seemed to me anyway hehe). I was working at Entergy-Koch here in Houston and we had a staff of 3 or 4 prof. mets that sat right next to me, tracking a new TD in the GOM. Anyway, they had a PA system there (for all the traders to get updates) and one of the mets picks up the PA and announced "we just received word from the NHC that the TD out in the Gulf will become TS Fay in the next advisory". I posted that on PBI and for whatever reason, it was still a TD at the next advisory. People on the board said I must have been some 14-year old living in fantasy land, and accused me of all kinds of irresponsible things. One of the admins went so far as to see if there were any IP hits from Entergy's server (which did check-out).

After that I moved to Dallas and quit posting. I missed the migration in 2003 but found this board about a month ago, ironically as a link, off of PBI.

We are happily back in Houston, tracking hurricanes, and I am glad I found this board!! It is much better!
