Most active storms on one particular day?

You guys are always a bottomless pit of information so here's a question for you... (Forgive me if it's been asked before)

I've seen lots of info about the # of storms in a given month, season, etc., but does anyone know what the record is for number of active storms on a single day?

Just curious...

4 active tropical cyclones has occurred many times.

5 active tropical cyclones has occurred:
On September 11th, 1971, Tropical Storm Edith was over the Yucutan, Tropical Storm Fern was over the Gulf, Hurricane Ginger was south of Bermuda, Tropical Storm Heidi east of Bahamas, and Tropical Depression (eventually Irene) east of the Lesser Antilles
On August 27th, 1995, Hurricane Humberto was in the open Atlantic, Tropical Storm Iris was over the Lesser Antilles, Tropical Depression Jerry was over Georgia, Tropical Storm Karen was over the Tropical Atlantic, and TD (Eventually Luis) was east of Karen.

No other times had 5 tropical cyclones.

I believe the answer is five named storms, although that is strictly off the top of my head. As for hurricanes, twice in recorded history there have been four hurricanes active at the same time in the Atlantic basin. The last time it happened was 1998 -- Hurricanes Georges, Ivan, Jeanne, and Karl.

Werent Ivan jeanne and karl in in hurricane season 2004 as well? 3 sam enames back then :0 interesting.

Yes, Ivan, Jeanne, and Karl were used in 2004's season, but they occurred at different times with different intensities.

The other time was in 1893, August 19th to be exact.

I remember that train back in 1995. Fortunately that year had alot of fish. Of course Iris and Luis did effect the islands. And Jerry effected Florida, but only as a mild tropical storm.
