This may be a year very different from 2004. But I would not let my guard down, here's why:
Not yet. This year has been unique with the crazy July monsters Dennis and Emily. What will happen in September is uncertain, but right now 2 waves (one near S. America) as well as another to its east has developed better convection. Time will tell.
Higher SSTs may faciliate stronger B-Highs a few weeks down the road.

i cant believe some are saying this Will not be as bad as last because last year was 'rare,' first off, we had 2 MAJORS hit land in JULY!! 1 being in the same spot as ivan, how much 'rarer' can you get??? and we have had 9 storms form earliest on record, how much 'rarer' can you get??? and we have a forecast of 20 named storms by dr grey, the highest EVER forecast, how much 'rarer' can you get??? and we have not even hit the day when the 1ST hurricane hit florida yet!! people, this season is breaking records left and right, and we have barely started!! im getting really tired of the "this season is like 95, last year was "rare".

why do you think that?? because thats what is happening now? im glad people wernt saying that last year when bonnie was just a tropical storm then bam, charley hit, or when danielle and earl turned and dissipated then bam frances, or when gaston and hermine were weak and turned then bam ivan...you CANNOT think this season will not be as bad as last year just because of what is going on now

I'm not sure what the point of the thread or what the NO! 2 thing is all about. But Dr. Gray just released an ACE index (measuing overall intensity for the season) 6 points higher than what we ended up with in 2004 (which probably is the record w/ 229). So he's thinking a stronger season overall, and their report is always conservative.
Take heed.

Back in prehistoric time or the time of the dinos lol they possible hade regularly 200MPH + hurricanes and hurricanes year round
and there Idea of rare is 60 hurricanes a year with a cat 5 (300 MPH +) heading across pangea ( the really really old super continent that all the present continents used ot be apart of)
oh ya and that would be going on for over 500 Million years
