Interestingly, the track is not that much further North.

If you're a Floridian and not ready for these, please, move back north. This appears to be the norm for the next decade, not the exception. This state will not be for the faint of heart to live in.
Well, you can be ready for them, but still have things to do the day before one hits! Like put up shudders, top off gas tanks, get some cash, put your plants and lawn furniture indoors somewhere, etc etc.

As a native, trust me. I'm ready in 6 hours. Flat. (Charley gave me lots of practice as did Ivan)....

Hey. I'm taking your advice John. I'm packing up the u-haul as I type. Sheesh!
I've lived in Sofla my ENTIRE life and believe me, it takes time to *prepare*, even if you are *prepared*! I have my supplies. But my home is not shuttered, my lawn furniture is not secured. My point is that it takes time to do these things. Daylight time.
Now back to your regularly scheduled Florida tropical storm board...

Same here. Got 5 days food and water in the garage in a large container. I have 15 gallons of diesel fuel for the wife's car (her car goes fartehr on a tank and diesel is less flammable) stored there too. Both the hurricane kit and the diesel fuel can be thrown in the car if necessary. It takes me about an hour to put up plywood. I'm "ready" within 2 or 3 hours to either hunker down or (less likely) get the heack out of dodge.

No not yet...similar to Katrina's preps South FL likes to wait just before the eye comes ashore to send everyone home and cancel classes...In fact, I had a friend who was waiting in line at Wendys during Katrina when the power went out as the eye was coming ashore...now you would think that was a sign to close up shop and go home..nope they kept on serving

Could also be alot of people in Dade that are still recovering from effects of Katrina, and need to re-supply and prepare.
