And to think all of S FL has ONE day to prepare. Thats right, one day. A potential Cat 2/3 into major metro areas. NOT GOOD.

Interestingly, the track is not that much further North.
And the Miami Forecast Discussion at 9:59 said:
Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Miami Florida
959 PM EDT sun Sep 18 2005

Update...
some minor changes planned for the marine and public zones as
watches upgraded to warnings along the southeast CST and tropical storm
watch will be extended north of Deerfield Beach.

AND THE EXTENSION NORTH OF THE WATCH DID NOT HAPPEN!!!
They extended North on teh West coast and not the East.

Suprise, surprise!!

If you're a Floridian and not ready for these, please, move back north. This appears to be the norm for the next decade, not the exception. This state will not be for the faint of heart to live in.

Well, you can be ready for them, but still have things to do the day before one hits! Like put up shudders, top off gas tanks, get some cash, put your plants and lawn furniture indoors somewhere, etc etc.

I guess Palm Beach County doesn't have to prepare for this one according to the NHC, Not even a tropical storm watch. 3 miles south of me in Deerfield Beach a Tropical storm warning and Hurricane watch I don't get it.

Hey. I'm taking your advice John. I'm packing up the u-haul as I type. Sheesh!

I've lived in Sofla my ENTIRE life and believe me, it takes time to *prepare*, even if you are *prepared*! I have my supplies. But my home is not shuttered, my lawn furniture is not secured. My point is that it takes time to do these things. Daylight time.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Florida tropical storm board...

No not yet...similar to Katrina's preps South FL likes to wait just before the eye comes ashore to send everyone home and cancel classes....the races are off tomorrow at 5pm at the nearest publix.

Same here. Got 5 days food and water in the garage in a large container. I have 15 gallons of diesel fuel for the wife's car (her car goes fartehr on a tank and diesel is less flammable) stored there too. Both the hurricane kit and the diesel fuel can be thrown in the car if necessary. It takes me about an hour to put up plywood. I'm "ready" within 2 or 3 hours to either hunker down or (less likely) get the heack out of dodge.

No not yet...similar to Katrina's preps South FL likes to wait just before the eye comes ashore to send everyone home and cancel classes...In fact, I had a friend who was waiting in line at Wendys during Katrina when the power went out as the eye was coming ashore...now you would think that was a sign to close up shop and go home..nope they kept on serving :) ....the races are off tomorrow at 5pm at the nearest publix.

Could also be alot of people in Dade that are still recovering from effects of Katrina, and need to re-supply and prepare.

I came after Irene in 1999 and since that I had no problems with hurricanes. In less than a month Katrina and Rita will enhance my interest in hurricanes, and how I love to track them far, far, far away!

Nothing on the Collier website yet. They did cancel classes for Katrina, so who knows.

SW FL won't see enough impacts to cancel classes IMHO.
