Ok this new page has the well anticipated Katrina report.Very long to digest so slowly you can go thru it and comment about anything about it at this thread.

as I have known for more than a month, 110KT was the Louisiana landfall. it is now official and now the heat must shift right to new orleans, as we now know that the levees were not designed to sustain a cat 3. Very important official word provided via the Katrina report

Derek you were in the money all along with your data and guess what NHC is in the same page so Derek congrats for being consistent.

reports may come out very quickly as all of the BT's are finished and have been for more than a month. Wilma I am waiting for as the BT data is unclear as to whether it hit as a cat 3 or a 4

Very great read for those who haven't already. Cat 3 Louisiana and Mississippi landfalls, max surge 27 ft, and total damages $75 billion.

These are also interesting -

Indeed, an unpublished study by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reveals that, during the past 20 years, all 11 hurricanes having a central pressure less than 973 mb 12 h before landfall in the northern Gulf of Mexico weakened during these last 12 h.

In fact, the central pressure of 920 mb is now the lowest on record in the Atlantic basin for an intensity of 110 kt, surpassing Hurricane Floyd (1999) that at one point had a central pressure of 930 mb with an intensity of 110 kt.

Katrina exemplifies that there is not simply a direct one-to-one relationship between the central pressure and the maximum sustained winds in a hurricane.
