TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 34

BY THE BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH

A CYCLONE WARNING for a CATEGORY 1 cyclone is current for coastal areas from
Mardie to Pardoo and adjacent inland areas.

At 12:00 am WDT Tropical Cyclone Jacob was estimated to be
120 kilometres north northwest of Karratha and
245 kilometres west northwest of Port Hedland and
moving east southeast at 21 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Jacob remains a Category 1 cyclone, and is expected to move
closer to the coast on Monday morning. There are no indications that the system
will intensify prior to landfall.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may develop on the Pilbara coast
between Mardie and Port Hedland early Monday morning.

Tides will be higher than expected between Dampier and Port Hedland.

Most of the rainfall is expected to fall to the south and southwest of the
centre. Falls should taper off inland. Widespread accumulated totals of around
50mm, with isolated heavier falls, are likely.

FESA-State Emergency Service advises the following community alerts:
YELLOW ALERT: People in or near coastal communities of Mardie, Dampier,
Karratha, Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson and Whim Creek should commence action
in preparation for potential cyclone impact.
BLUE ALERT: People in or near remaining coastal communities between Pardoo and
Mardie including Port Hedland should commence taking precautions.
ALL CLEAR WITH CAUTION: People in the community of Pannawonica.


The next warning will be issued by 4:00 am WDT Monday 12 March.

A CYCLONE WARNING for a CATEGORY 1 cyclone is current for coastal areas from
Dampier to Pardoo and adjacent inland areas.

At 3:00 am WDT Tropical Cyclone Jacob was estimated to be
95 kilometres north of Karratha and
175 kilometres west northwest of Port Hedland and
moving east southeast at 22 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Jacob remains a Category 1 cyclone and is approaching the
Pilbara coast. There are no indications that the system will intensify prior to
landfall. The cyclone is expected to cross the coast between Whim Creek and Port
Hedland around midday.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may develop on the Pilbara coast
this morning between Karratha and Port Hedland.

Tides will be higher than expected between Whim Creek and Pardoo.

Widespread accumulated totals of around 50mm are likely with isolated heavier

the live audio stream from ABC Northwest ..its nearing 7am there in the morning now... a caller described a spectacular display of lightning near Port Hedland...the center of Jacob is apporaching the coastline.

Roebourne to Pardoo and adjacent inland areas.

The CYCLONE WARNING for coastal areas between Dampier and Roebourne has been
CANCELLED.

At 6:00 am WDT Tropical Cyclone Jacob was estimated to be
90 kilometres northeast of Karratha and
130 kilometres west of Port Hedland and
moving east southeast at 19 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Jacob remains a Category 1 cyclone and is approaching the
Pilbara coast. There are no indications that the system will intensify prior to
landfall. The cyclone is expected to cross the coast between Whim Creek and Port
Hedland close to midday.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may develop on the Pilbara coast
during the morning between Roebourne and Port Hedland.

A CYCLONE WARNING for a CATEGORY 1 cyclone is current for coastal areas from
Whim Creek to Pardoo.

The CYCLONE WARNING for coastal areas between Roebourne and Whim Creek has been
CANCELLED.

At 9:00 am WDT Tropical Cyclone Jacob was relocated by radar and surface
observations and estimated to be
45 kilometres northwest of Port Hedland and
170 kilometres east northeast of Karratha and
moving east southeast at 22 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Jacob remains a Category 1 cyclone and is approaching the
Pilbara coast. There are no indications that the system will intensify prior to
landfall. The cyclone is expected to cross the coast between Whim Creek and
Pardoo, most likely close to midday.

GALES with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour have been observed offshore and may
develop on the Pilbara coast during the morning between Whim Creek and Pardoo.

Tides will be higher than expected between Whim Creek and Pardoo.

Widespread accumulated totals of around 50mm are likely with scattered falls of
100mm and isolated heavier falls possible near the track of the cyclone. Falls
should taper off inland.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH

The CYCLONE WARNING for coastal areas from Whim Creek to Pardoo has been
CANCELLED.

At 3:00 pm WDT Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jacob was estimated to be
95 kilometres east of Port Hedland and
22 kilometres south southwest of Pardoo and
moving east southeast at 22 kilometres per hour.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jacob has weakened below cyclone intensity after crossing
the coast just east of Port Hedland early this afternoon.

Gales are no longer expected in coastal communities, however, HEAVY RAIN is
expected to cause flooding in Pilbara coastal rivers and in the De Grey river
catchment. Please refer to Flood Warning Centre products IDW39830 and IDW39845.

213.

Details of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jacob at 3:00 pm WDT.
