Funny bc I did an average of the seasons between 1995-2009 and took out the El Niño years (97, 02, 06, 09) and the average comes out to be 16/8/4

Even with those years, the average for the past 15 years (95-09) is 15/8/4...or 14.53/7.73/3.73 to be more technical.

Of course 2005 skews the whole thing significantly:

19/11/5
14/10/6
8/3/1
14/10/3
12/8/5
15/8/3
15/9/4
12/4/2
16/7/3
15/9/6
28/15/7
10/5/2
15/6/2
16/8/5
9/3/2

Here is yet another forecast for the 2010 season, this one from Meteorologist LARRY COSGROVE. He goes much less bullish than the vast majority of the experts,12/7/2.

http://www.examiner.com/x-3775-Houston- ... -650-PM-CT

A balance must be established between the very favorable look of SST anomalies on both the Pacific and Atlantic sides. Cooling is very obvious in the central tropical sectors (see TAO/TRITION data) and the warmth between western Africa and the Texas shoreline is quite impressive. But if you look at the cool expression near Bermuda and the prominent southwest flow scraping the equator from South America into the Rift Valley, it seems a likely bet that another month or perhaps 6 weeks will pass before upper level flow and shear profiles will become favorable for meaningful warm-core cyclogenesis. My call is for 12 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 2 major storms, with August and September being especially active. Threats to Texas and the Florida Panhandle show up strongly in analogues for the 2010 tropical cyclone season.

I am growing ever more confident on expressions of extreme heat for much of the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. through September. Like 1995 (a very viable comparison based on the -ENSO evolution and analogs to weak/moderate La Nina episodes), I think the expansion of the Sonoran heat ridge into the Midwest, with linkage/phasing to the Great Smokies subtropical high) will make for a very trying JJA period from the Missouri Valley into the Mid-Atlantic region. The little preview in the third/fourth week of May was just a sampling of what I expect this season.

Great to hear from you again. Long hurricane season ahead. No hurricanes for you but I figure those blizzards can be brutal!
