It looks pretty impressive coming off the coast, but as said before SAL should dry it up fairly well. I like to track these waves on MIMIC.

It's lifting right out into the SAL and Atlantic.

I would not write this one off just yet. I'm interested to see what happens to this one in the next 3 to 5 days.
CV season is around the corner.

Yep, the normal CV developers are still at least a month away, but like everyone else has pointed out the conditions will improve for them west of 65w and any impressive wave on into the Carib. Sea this year looks like trouble for sure!

Nice link, it definitely appears to me this wave has a very good signature at least. It is definitely an impressive wave, it may have some potential down the road.

The wave that just formed in Africa has an even better circulation. That one may be a true player after this wave clears the environment out some.

As the title says, this wave is clearing the path for the waves behind and really the moisture is plenty helping to clean the sal.

The difference in the SAL in just a couple of days since the 1st wave came off the W coast of Africa is pretty remarkable. The moisture has taken a chunk out of it and the next wave due to exit in the next day or so will have a better chance of development.
Really interesting to watch this over the coming days.

This wave certainly did a great job moistening up the atmosphere after the big SAL outbreak

I don't think its just the wave that is helping to reduce the SAL, the ridge that has sat ober W.Europe is finally weakening and thats probably helping to ease off the SAL outbreaks from Africa as well...but no doubt the wave has helped mix up what was left out there.

You can see here better the cleaner Eastern Atlantic that wave is helping to clean the path for future waves.

SAL expected to reach the Keys this weekend...

.LONG TERM (WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)...
THE AXIS OF THE ATLANTIC RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL MIGRATE
NORTHWARD TOWARDS NORTH FLORIDA AND THE NORTHERN GULF BY LATE
WEDNESDAY...ALLOWING FOR THE PRESSURE GRADIENT TO TIGHTEN OVER THE
AREA. FRESHENING AND DEEP EAST TO SOUTHEASTERLY TRADE WIND FLOW
WILL THUS DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION BY THURSDAY. THIS WEATHER
PATTERN WILL ALSO OPEN THE DOOR FOR A WEAK TROPICAL WAVE TO PASS
ACROSS OUR REGION BY LATE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY FOLLOWED BY WHAT
COULD BE A SAHARAN AIR LAYER (SAL) DURING THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. WE
WILL CONTINUE TO INDICATE SCATTERED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY
FROM WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND WAIT ON MODEL CONSISTENCY WITH
REGARDS TO THE POTENTIAL SAL EVENT THIS WEEKEND BEFORE DROPPING RAIN
CHANCES BELOW THE SCATTERED VARIETY.

I'm curious since I've never experienced SAL, what is it like. Does it just make the day hazy or something more. Right now it appears SAL is affecting a good chunk of the Caribbean so I'm just curious to know what it's like.

SAL can make for some beautiful sunrise and sunsets. I can't remember the last good SAL event.

I have no scientific data to back this up but... my buds and I would always keep an eye on the SAL to cure the summer lulls in wave action. For some reason, both in Puerto Rico and Florida, it seems as if we get a definite bump in swell action whenever we get that hazy shot of SAL. We call it the Saharan Dust Swell. As a matter of fact the Central Florida surf report is calling for a 3'+ increase in breaking wave height for this weekend. Coincidence? 8-)

I don't know if anyone noticed but after that big SAL surge, which is still continuing, the waves are coming off further north of 10N. It's a step in the right direction but it could take weeks for the SAL to fade away. Looks like we'll see surge after surge of SAL, probably weaker than the outbreaks that preceded them.
