I don't see where you were ridiculed.Swimdude wrote:Ixolib wrote:Swimdude wrote:hicksta wrote:good god. yall are old
Now, now. They're much more intelligent than you or I as well.
***says one of the youngsters!!***![]()
And i'm ridiculed for this? Yes, i'm nearly 17... But i'm stating the truth. Heck, no one my age nor younger has even the correct school experience to even CLAIM to be more intelligent in this feild than anyone 20+.

I'm 21, and I guess I've been paying particular attention to tropical storms for 10 years.
My first hurricane experience was when we evacuated Hugo in 1989 (yes, I lived in Mobile... don't ask me why my mom decided to take my brother and I to Montgomery
). We watched the evening news after Andrew crossed Florida in 1992 and worried whether it would turn north quickly enough to affect Alabama. I was 8 then.
But my first real hurricane experience was Erin in 1995... and then Opal in 1995. From there it went on. Danny in 1997, Georges in 1998, and then a relative lull until Ivan in 2004 (our second evacuation) and Dennis in 2005.

I have to say, one of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from Fried Green Tomatoes when two young chickies steal a parking spot from Kathy Bates' character, Evelyn:
Young chickies: "Face it lady, we're younger and faster."
*Evelyn rams the crap out of their car*
Evelyn: "Face it girls, I'm older and I have more insurance."
TAWANDA!
Hey Ixolib, you can put me down for 8 years storm tracking (sorry about the vagueness).

Come on, now. I KNOW I'm not the oldest one on here. Everyone 'fess up.
I guess it's unusual for someone my age, especially female, to be so interested in weather phenomena. Most of my friends are content to just ask occasionally what's happening with so and so.
I've become more technically oriented as I've aged and had more time to pursue interests and am often referred to as the gadget guru as I try ro keep up with the latest technology. Next to you kids, I'm probably light years behind but for my generation..well, let's just say I'm an oddity!!!LOL
I think it makes for a great mix to have so much diversity here. I do tend to get frustrated by very bold statements without an "IMO" such as "it is definitely coming here" (or going there) or "it WILL be a Cat 5" but you can chalk that up to crotchety old age- NOT!!!!
Despite our age differences we are still a cohesive group and many of us consider this a family. Let's all play nice and please remember to respect your elders.

Yes, but I have never acted or looked my age, and my IQ is 10x your age.
Ouch.

I know more about weather than anyone in my family and that includes my parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins/etc, all older than me. Everyone comes to me to find out about the weather.
