Hello from Homestead. We just got power back up. We lost it about 10pm last night. I can now say that I have lived through my first hurricane! I cannot even IMAGINE what a cat 5 must be like. Last night was crazy. We were up almost all night, although my 3 year old (thankfully) slept through most of the excitement. At about 11pm last night my husband had to go out to save the neighbor's dog. She had gotten out of their fence earlier during the day and they couldn't find her before the weather got bad. Apparently she was trying to get home during the storm because we saw her running around outside. Travis went out and grabbed her and basically carried her back over to the neighbor's. He said it was brutal and that the rain felt like needles on his skin. He said he had to scream to be heard by the neighbors when they came to the door and even in rain gear he was totally drenched when he got back to our place. He also said that the wind blew his flashlight out of his hand almost as soon as he stepped out the door. We haven't found it. When it wasn't raining so hard we couldn't see out the windows, we watched as the water flowed like a river between our house and the neighbors. We still have about a foot of water in most of our yard, and at the lowest part of the yard about 2 feet. We have very little water preasure and what water we do have coming into the house is yellowish/brown. Definitely won't be drinking it anytime soon!
We'll definitely be praying for whoever gets this next. It's going to be a doozy.

hi everyone just got the cable back ,lost power last night about 7:00 pm but came back on around 1:00 am(guess we were lucky ) lots of people without power down here, anyway got a little rough here last night, neighborhood under water but, it 's went down a lot since morning. got a lot of trees down ,roof is leaking but other than that not to much damage.I have to say though learned some hard lessons last night...1.there is no such thing as a minimal hurricane.....2.every storm has its own personality and can do significant damage in different ways.3.when there is a hurricane warning put up for your area heed the warning and put up your shutters....I would felt a whole lot better last night if my windows had of been covered.and finally mother nature has a mind of her own.
I've heard a lot of people on tv interviews saying we had no warning, it was supposed to go west across the state ,media downplayed the storm thats why we didn't prepare but really can't blame anyone but ourselves (myself included ) because we were under the warning and just want to say I think nhc did the best job they could, as this is mother nature we're dealing with.
my prayers are with whoever gets this storm next please stay safe

On generator power....FPL expects 90% power restored by Tuesday..and the remaining 10% by next Friday.
Not all in Broward are back T-bonz...after all the northern portion of the eye and what made up the northern eyewall hit the southern part of the county....on generator right now...I drove around last night to check on family and I have NEVER seen such an eery dark city...you literally could not see beyond your headlights in the SW portion of Fort Lauderdale. Cat. 1 is all I ever need to experience...anything higher and this area is in big trouble!

Echoing some of your thoughts, posted this in another thread:
We just had nasty little band go through Lauderhill, torrential rain for about 10 minutes. I actually think it rained more today than yesterday. While it didn't rain much here, (by that I mean maybe 5 inches) we surely got some strong winds. We were right in the northern "eye-wall" for a while. My weatherbug showed a gust of 82 miles an hour at a fire station a few miles away. Much of Lauderhill has no power still, was just driving back and seems like most of the city north of 44th st is dark. Also, alot of Plantation is in the dark, around Cleary and pine island for instance. I'd say 75% of the traffic lights aren't working, and only about half of those have Police there (thank God for them being at those). While the winds were slightly weaker here than Andrew, I'd say the damage/nuisance in this area is about the same as it was 13 years ago.
All that said, again, we dodged a MAJOR bullet. Could you even imagine a major cane making landfall where this one did? Even on the same path, or on a path straight west through the county line? It would be horrendous.
My power is on, but my cable and phone is out. I hope everyone stays safe, and don't travel, especially at night, unless you really have to.

I'd love to know what we gusted up to here in Coral Springs, but haven't seen that stat anywhere.
My mom lost power in Margate, but only for 6 hours.
I have a friend in Ft. L proper who is still without power. Ugh.
I heard 400,000 still are without it in Broward.
I'm assuming we "only" got T.S. force winds. But I don't regret putting up/closing (I have two types of) shutters. It gave me much peace of mind.
The poor guys in the Keys. They weren't even in the NHC "cone of doom", were they?
