30 MPH and a few gusts to 50MPH in squalls which should be limited this far north...Pressure Gradient is the wind produver not Rita..

i guess by way of lack of responses to this thread most those here in SFLA (except the Keys) believe we are out of the woods (meaning we are not likely to experience the core of Rita)

Jp. You are correct....Some squally weather, but no big deal. The keys will have a problem...Anyplace South of Florida City, will have the most impact from this storm...

I think anyone 145 miles from the center will have problems (that's how far Tropical Storm force wilnd reach) You can get Tornados, flooding and with tropical storm force winds for over 12 hours, trees can fall easily. So everyone up through Palm Beach County must be concerned!!!

Hi Barb! Haven't heard that they plan to close the schools tomorrrow. Nothing on their web site either, so I guess its business as usual for my 15 year old son tomorrow!

From what I can see, most everyone is concerned. No one in Palm Beach County that I know is taking this storm lightly. A few folks in my office who have elderly parents or special needs children have already decided not to come in tomorrow and the management staff announced a while ago that they will make an official decision later tonight. My office might be closed tomorrow.

I've talked to my family and neighbors. They are all concerned too. Some are putting up shutters, some not.

Concerned yes? But panicked? No. I'm not sure what kind of response you are looking for...I really think that after last year and then our brief visit from Lady Katrina a few weeks ago, we all know the incredible damage that even a small storm can bring. However, that's the very reason that concern is a good thing right now.

I think that everyone and anyone in South Florida needs to take a deep breath about now. Rita is coming. Now is the time to do whatever you feel is necessary with a concerned eye - without any panic. Hey, this is life in the tropics!

Be smart. Stay safe.

Actually I'm not as concerned for S. Florida as I was a couple of days ago. Looks like only extreme S. Florida (Miami-Dade) will feel major effects. Elsewhere not much.

I wonder if Miami is going to be spared? Has Rita formed a new center further south and has her movement shifted from wnw to due west? If so, Miamians will begin to start yawning, if not already.

Not all of us! :eek: From what I'm hearing, we will get possible hurricane gusts, possible sustained... if it stays on the current track, anyhow.

my greatest concern now for Miami-Dade and Broward is the distinct possibility of a blowup of convection N of the center that will wrap around over the warm Gulf stream waters. Should this happen, it will get ugly in S. Florida.

A strong area of convection is spinning of N of Rita and heading towards S. Florida Miami-Dade/Broward...

outer feeder band getting to move onshore around West Palm Beach. I know earlier someone in Ft. Lauderdale reported close to 40mph winds with a feeder band that went thru. I wonder if we can expect the same here with this band
