Current status of MJO. Look out, the tropics are ready to get very active over the next couple of weeks, espeacially with the strong wave coming off Africa today.

What's with the WPAC and their monster Mawar and another depression? I know MJO isn't the only factor in this, but that looks like some pretty heavy brown over both of them.

once that extremely wet MJO over hurricane Hilary in the EPAC moves into the Gulf, BOOM.

the big question right now I think is will the wet MJO be strong enough to minimize the strength of the SAL in the EATL so that 97L can live

I noticed that SAL map as well. Although some SAL is still there you gotta admit, it is significantly weaker compared to what it has been in weeks past.

Well we are entering the peak of the season so perhaps it could flare up quickly.

Suddenly I'm beginning to believe the MJO is less of a factor in other basins than in the Atlantic, since a wet MJO will moisten the atmosphere, which doesn't really matter in other basins except the Atlantic, because of Saharan Air. And it doesn't matter where else the wet MJO is, the most important is that the wet MJO is over the area from the Azores to Cape Verde to the Sahara. That is beginning to happen, but dry MJO still lingers in the Sahara.

Look at the WPAC. Yes, dry air, that is allowing systems to be small. But they can still form. Look at Mawar and Guchol, they are Fujiwaring there.

JMO on the MJO.

Bump. And look at the map in the thread above. There seems to be a pattern forming here.

A very disturbing one....

The positive MJO is almost through the entire Atlantic basin. This was forecast a couple weeks ago when folks complained about a less than favorable MJO.

MJO doesnt make hardly a difference. We got almost nothing under wet MJO, and are getting activity under dry MJO.

mjo seems to be coing back this evening. What do you all think. Seems like the Atlandic is starting to pulse. For example tonight the suspect areas seem to be pulsing. http://www.myspace.com/26011383
