No power for 28 days after Hurricane Fran went through when I lived in Louisburg, NC. No water either. We had to walk down the street to get buckets of water from the pond in order to flush the toilet. That was horrible! -and I still had to get up and get to work in Raleigh after they quickly recovered there! Every couple of days we rented a hotel room just to shower up. NOT FUN.
At least here I can jump into the gulf to cool off, and there is always a breeze. The hottest I think it has ever gotten here for me is 94 degrees. It usually is more like 88 for a high duirng the hottest times of the year.

They're probably too busy dodging bullets or avoiding rape from drug lords or tyrants or trying to find their next meal to complain about something as minor as electricity.
Seriously though, I hate when people play the victim game but I also don't like when people say things like, "I'd trade my misery for yours any day" as if we're in a competition for the worst disaster.

TreasureIslandFlGal, I can't even imagine that. That had to be horrible. Being from Pittsburgh, severe weather for us is ice, snow, tornado or flooding. I'm 62 and the longest I've gone without power is 12 hours. That's really hard to believe. I'm very lucky but ya know I still complain about things too.
Pojo, I guess it's all relative. I feel for those people who have very little and pray for them but don't feel a bit guilty when I complain and moan a little.

Never take anything for granted, that is for sure. Like I said earlier, my mom was living in Thibodaux during Betsy in 1965. They had no power for about 2 weeks and she said they had to stand in line for hours just to get ice. So, they could have something cold to drink. Nobody had generators back then like they do today. My dad was living in Cut Off during Betsy where the damage was even more severe. My grandparents went 3 weeks without power, running water or a phone. My dad's youngest brother was just a baby and my grandma had to stand in line for a long time just for ice to keep his bottle cold.

yeah, probably not. At least we will get to read the tropical outlooks from the TPC again though, and there might be 1-2 systems that try to spin up before August that will be fun to track. Let's just hope that any landfalls stay on the weak side this season. It is fun to watch a nice weak to moderate (and fast moving) TS hit your area, but a strong hurricane is another story. Let's hope we see another 2006 repeat (in terms of escaping major landfalls).MortisFL wrote:Well the season starts June 1st...but activity wont likely start until August

That's a good question. I don't see why people are thinking this when it's not even May yet.
climatology + florida = late august through nov 1, other parts of the basin are different
