I don't know why but my gut feeling tells me a late start to this season. Late July or August. So I am thinking some of the first names will be the big ones. Chantal, Dorian and Humberto are the ones that stand out for me.

The big one, by far, will be Ingrid. This storm should continue the line of devastating and/or intense hurricanes to begin with the letter "I"...

Isabel
Ivan
Ike
Igor
Irene
Isaac

...and etc.

another believer in "I"...no thoughts on the season save that the persistent near East coast longwave trough axis will be displaced westward to roughly the Ohio Valley...opening the door, at least a crack, for Florida and the East coast. For entertainment value only, I will include the Old Farmers Almanac long-term hurricane forecast for 2013 for Florida: June 1-5 Hurricane threat, June 11-15 Hurrricane threat, August 5-7 Hurricane threat, October 10-15 Hurricane threat...Remember entertainment value only!

I'm gonna throw in some EPAC storms just for kicks. Barbara, Flossie and Ivo will hit Mexico and Tropical Storm Pewa will give Hawaii some very heavy rain.

I guess the active phase of the atlantic will end soon and the pacific will again gain the center stage as it will enter its own active phase( yes.. for the past decade the wpac is below average. IMO , that inactivity started after the El NINO in late 90's.... i also think the 2 basins are sort of opposite :double:
for the Atlantic, I think it will be GABRielle

we are already in center stage, just add in this active phrase and it's something out of this world..could we see the return of what a true wpac season can produce like the early 90
s and during the recon era??? i can imagine what hell will be like...

:uarrow: This active phase in the Atlantic could last until well into the 2030's. I've read that an active phase can last anywhere from 40-60 years. We aren't even 20 years into this active phase.

If any of the names get retired, which names do you think should be replacements?

Gabrielle sticks out to me. I'm betting on her. Maybe Ingrid as well.

Hey Laura! I thought the same thing!! Something about that name just conjures up some old Olympic Woman's Swimming championship memories. I remember some time back when there were all these "doping" allegations regarding some of the Soviet Bloc/E. German woman athletes; Anyway....., I seem to remember this one woman named Ingrid who just looked and sounded a lot more like a guy and built like Rambo (steroids?). Yep, THAT name kinda scares me, LOL.

I really don't have "predictions" for strongest storms. As usual, I just have the hope that IF there are storms destructive enough to get their names retired, that those be from among the names which have been on the list since it began in 1983. And I especially would like to see the B and E names (this year Barry and Erin) retired since there have been so few of them ever retired, and there are so many good possible replacements for those letters.

The full list of the names that have been on this list since 1983 is:
Barry, Chantal, Erin, Gabrielle, Jerry, Karen, Pablo, Sebastien, Tanya, Van, Wendy

As for "I" -- 2007, the first time we had an Ingrid, was also the last year where the "I" storm was actually a complete "dud" in the sense of being a tropical storm which never had a landfall. I'm hoping for a repeat of that this season.

I don't want Erin to be retired before Emily!

:uarrow: We have no control over that. It will be what is meant to be. And the decision on the behalf of whoever gets hit by said storm.
