as a non-educated enthusiast, i love this board. so many of you take this very seriously and those bold enough to predict do it with such a high level of class and tasteful hesitation. when somebody just drops by in anticipation of a big storm to throw out their two cents, its fine. they have the right. but when they continue to repeat/interject/annoy by repeating their opinion again and again, it screams out troll. it also begins to make me feel they are doing this to screw with the productive vibe going on in here.
hurricane_lover...
will this storm turn due north this morning and head right into the grand strand? many of us doubt it, but if you feel this way, please give us more substantiation besides your gut reaction. if not, pull back.. let things happen... and if it makes the turn and it all comes true, we will throw you a party. is it a deal?

How is he baiting? He is just stating his opinions.
With absolutely no reasoning to back them up other than "I know hurricanes" and he has yet to respond to several people who have asked (nicely, even) why he thinks as he does about Frances.
An ex-boyfriend of mine was fond of the "Because I said so" argument. He was often wrong, too. I say, back that azz up, or expect to get smacked around about unqualified opinions presented as fact.

And I say, my stars, I love to hate and hate to love hurricane season.
What I meant was if you're gonna bash hurricane_lover, leave this thread alone. Otherwise feel free to post in this thread.

Why thanks for your permission, moderator yoda. I'll have such the nicer day now.
And there really was no "bashing" of your pal in that post.
1. [He is just stating his opinions] With absolutely no reasoning to back them up [in meteorological terms/reasoning] other than "I know hurricanes" - FACT. Not one of the posts he has written has had any meterological reasoning in them. One used the term "trough."
2. "he has yet to respond to several people who have asked (nicely, even) why he thinks as he does [meteorologically, not gut instincts] about Frances." - FACT. People in several threads have extended him the opportunity to beat the naysayers back and he hasn't responded to their nicely asked questions.
3. "An ex-boyfriend of mine was fond of the "Because I said so" argument. " - FACT
4. "He was often wrong, too." - God knows that was a FACT
5. "I say, back that azz up, or expect to get smacked around about unqualified opinions presented as fact." - a broad OPINION of mine that goes for pretty much anybody making a reasonless prediction without qualifying it as a SWAG.
Bashing is in the eye of the beholder, but there was none in this post.

Tell you what. If hurricane_lover is right and it hits South Carolina (after all, he did narrow it down to that yesterda) I'll post pictures of my head photoshopped onto some other nekkid chick's fabulous body.
If hurricane_lover is wrong, he has to give a 500 word explanation of why he thought the way he did. Deal?
eta: fine yoda, a link to them then. Deal? You seem to have become his agent.

If hurricane_lover is wrong, he has to give a two paragraph explanation of why he thought the way he did. Deal?
I think you'd be banned from the board for doing that... I am JUST STATING! I don't know! Why are you asking me?

Non Tracker
hurricane_lover wrote:no doubt. I have tracked these things for 15 years. I know hurricanes, folks.
Many including myself have asked you to substantiate your claim of this fictitious sudden North turn and drive to SC yet not once have you posted a shred of meteorology evidence or pointed to something that the other METS, professional or amateur have missed. Therefore logic dictates (I’m a Treckie…) that your statement of tracking such events for 15 years is not only illogical, but immature and irresponsible.

before you bite someone else:
Repremand (as spelled by you)
Reprimand (correct spelling)
No matter where everyone thinks Frances will be going, let's hope people were wise, and prepared for the possibility!

I am locking the thread. Once again we have a non-productive he said-she said argument going with nothing being produced.
To those of you that think it is fine for Hurricane_lover to post his opinions, you are correct. To not back them up with anything but "I've tracked hurricanes for 15 years" is "OK" too. That is all allowed. However, there are many on this board with a lot more experience than 15 yrs.-I think my 40+ yrs of tracking and analyzing the tropics is just a few more than his.-that use a lot more than "gut feeling" to make our forecasts.
BOTTOM LINE IS THIS-IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIS "OPINIONS"-DO NOT RESPOND TO THEM-IGNORE THEM. PEOPLE THAT ARE IGNORED WILL JUST GO AWAY WHEN THEY GET NO REPSONSE.
WITH HURRICANE FRANCES LITERALLY THREATENING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE AND THEIR HOMES I APPEAL TO EVERYONE HERE TO KEEP A LEVEL HEAD-READ THE RESPONSIBLE POSTS FROM THE MORE ACCOMPLISHED AMATUERS AND THE PROFESSIONAL METS ON SITE AND ALONG WITH NHC AND YOUR LOCAL NWS OFFICES INFORMATION MAKE THE DECISIONS NECESSARY FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THE PROTECTION OF YOUR PROPERTY.
Otherwise do not waste your time and energy and STORM2K's bandwidth arguing with someone who has proved they will not change even with almost absolute proof(nothing is absolute in meteorology when forecasting)that their opinnion is incorrect.
