Louisiana may not be so lucky in 2005

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I was just making a little joke about my bad luck. Louisiana cannot handle any hurricanes... ever. Our coastline would be destroyed even further. Believe me, I don't want a hurricane. Just wanted to clear that up.

I knew what you meant. When I read Rainbands' reply, I realized he just misunderstood you. :)

I have that same luck. We need rain? I'll just plan a trip to the beach. The ran will come.

Sure, Louisiana has had plenty of storms over the last 20 years.......most very weak hurricanes and weak tropical storms. However, there has been much damage by these storms. Most of us here in the deep south feel that we are long over due for that monster storm, and sooner or later we will get it. But, your right about the chances........just because its been a while, does not mean you'll have a higher chance this go round. I've been around 33 years, and I've only seen 2 storms of real consequence that affected my area. Elena in '85 and Georges. Both did significant damage to our area. Who knows, this may just be the year!Bill

Wpwxguy I was in both of those storms an consider neither one that major myself.I was outside in Elena in the Eye was absolutly cool. The fire station(500ft away)would announce over the loud speaker 5mins. till the eye passes then 4,3,etc.George was different sounded stonger than Elena maybe because of night time thing.I was never so happy to here that the eye was coming over me.The storm was moving so slow I knew it would stall peace at last. Now that was to bad for Lindaloo though what was it Linda 10-15 hrs. of Hurricane winds? What I am tring to say neither was a Camille thank God.To me a true Cat 3 is what it would take to catch my attention to seek shelter. This even so the house I live in now we lived in during Camille.

THANK YOU. And even if we do get a "hit", it doesn't mean that we will get a major hit. We could get another Izzy - and trust me, that is FINE with me.

It was so sad to read those early posts knowing what was going to happen.

TSmith, wasn't Buras the landfall site? Your luck really WAS bad, wasn't it? I'm so sorry for your loss.

Funny how my old post got brought back up. I had this strong feeling that between the 13th anniversary of Andrew and the 40th anniversary of Betsy, New Orleans would get the big one. It was a feeling I could not shake off no matter how hard I tried. I kept having these dreams over and over about a violent hurricane hitting the New Orleans coast. Within 4 hours before Katrina hit, I guessed as Buras, LA would be the landfall site with 145 mph winds. Sadly, I hit it right on the nose.

Sorry TSmith. My husband is also heartbroken because he loves going down to Venice, LA and fishing. I have heard some many stories about the area down near Venice. Quiet, peaceful, fishing community. Some of his friends have a place there...well had a place. I am sure it is no longer there.
