Here's my $.02:

First of all JB is not Accuweather. He is an employee. Many people seem to equate JB with Accuweather and that's just not the case. Often, there are graphics that do not match JB's opinion, I imagine that the overall consensus amongst the forecasting TEAM in those cases may not agree with JB, and the majority wins, if you will. As for the change cited by Derecho, again, that seems to be an Accuweather issue not a JB issue.

As for Dennis, and this has been debated numerous times, he basically followed the UKMET since it was consistent almost to the very end. He wasn't the ONLY one and I really doubt anyone in New Orleans failed to evacuate for Katrina specifically b/c Joe B. happened to be wrong with Dennis. Geez.

And on the criticizing, I suppose it does cut both ways. But for the most part, he just calls it like he sees it. If he thinks there will be 6" of snow in Denver and the NWS office says light rain and 35 degrees, he'll point it out. His biggest beef with the NHC isn't so much their track forecasts, it's mostly intensity and how they classify storms. There are often contradictions where you take 2 given systems with the same pressure and wind field and yet one is classified as a hurricane and another as a TS. And it's not just him, there is a lot of debate on the board here amongst mets. and amateurs alike - there does seem to be an issue with this. Just because he points that out, and rightfully so, does not make him an evil person.

And it started well before the Santorum bill (which I despise, but I don't think we have anything to worry about; it'll never pass).

When you see a forecast track on your local newscast its NHC's track not Accuweather's.If private companies make the track there would not be a need for a NHC.If private companies ran the projected track you will see all kind of looney paths.
