You are normally very conservative, so I'm very surprised by that.

I have a bad feeling about this one--she's not even begun to peak, and is very large already. It has a long trip across the Gulf, and will have no impediments to being a monster. We saw what happened to Katrina, and this one may act accordingly. I think this season is winding down, but has one more beast left--and this is She.

Appreciate the explanation, all I can say is I hope not!

I do hope I am wrong. It seems as if each season has its brand, so to speak. Last year was the "Florida shooting gallery." This year seems to have become the year of intense, low tracking Gulf storms, capped by the doomsday senario for Mississippi and Louisiana. Dennis, Emily, Katrina were all strong Gulf storms. If Rita continues tracking into the Western Gulf, it will not have the issues of weakening on the Northward turn over shallow waters--thus it could rapidly intensify, and remain mean.

I do not wish this on anybody, and truly hope I am wrong, but I have an uneasy feeling, and have been pacing around my house all evening, stressed out over the disquietude that some bunch of poor souls are going to get hit in the Gulf, and that tears me up.

Favorable upper environment, good speed so no upwelling, gotta run through the gulf stream for a bit and its Mid-September....but, my guess is she'll be like Katrina, and not hit during her peak wind-speed over in the W Gulf.

Agreeing with you Nasty, I think this might be the proverbial "big one", and I know we dont do gut feelings around here, but for some reason, my gut's been acting wierd
