I noticed *alot* of blue tarps and unfinished roofs out there flying over metro South Florida - what kind of preparations are being made in this case?

Hopefully it's nothing much for you all to worry about. He looks pretty sad right now. Probably a very weak TS or maybe even a TD right now. Too bad we can't get recon. He'll probably intensify a little, but I don't think it'll be too much. Hopefully this will be one of those "fun" storms! :)

Right now this is definitely down to a TD. But I don't see any reason it wouldn't get back to Cat 1 status by the time it gets to our neighborhood, especially since it appears to be taking a relatively short path across Cuba, as oppsed to a more westerly one (which gives it more time over water after emerging).

I'm hoping the trend continues and it stays east of us, but I'm not betting on it.

I'm honestly hoping it's ONLY a Cat. 1 as it reaches our shores. I could foresee this bombing out once it hits those warm waters of the FL Straits....All my fellow S. FLoridians, prepare and stay safe!!!!!

It's interesting how the convection is trying to maintain itself off cuba.... I do see a lil white in the cloudtops off GOES imagery

If you're not prepared for a storm during hurricane season, you shouldn't be living here.

That said, I think that Ernesto will wind up off the coast, and that we will be on the weak side of the storm. I just have a feeling that this is going to be one of those "cry wolf" situations. The track just keeps going east, east, east, with every advisory.

As for bombing in the FL Straits to a Cat. 3........hey, it wouldn't be unprecedented. Not saying it will happen, but I suppose that it could happen. Exhibit A: one year that needs no explanation....1935.

I dont believe recon has found TS force winds in some time. It appears to be a marginal depression at this time. I just can see this getting to Cat 2 strength (fyi 'strengths' is the longest word in the english language that has just one vowel (a,e,i,o,u).. just a little OT useless info).

Well at least the 11 AM says Cat 1 when it gets here.

My hope, along with probabaly all of you South Floridians; is that it weakens enough to not be able to even get to Cat 1 strngth before it gets here.

Or, it ends up East of here missing us and putting us on the weak side.

If it materializes like they currently forecast, I see a Hurricane Warning for the East Coast and Keys north of 7 mile bridge at 5Pm or 11 PM.

How close can it get (a great tool at http://stormcarib.com/closest.htm) has it 12.2 miles from me at about 11 AM Wednesday. Yikes!!

Hang in there South Florida, maybe we will elude this one.

Even though I know it is just a Tropical storm it seems like the convection is growing!

I don't know... We all WERE predicting massive strengthening before, and it didn't happen... What says it's going to happen this time, and AFTER a landfall?

It seems the nhc has been overpredicting the storms intensities this season. Last year the majority of the time they underestimated. I think they're being more cautious this year. I just can't see a Cat1 hitting florida from this. It just looks too unorganized.

benny wrote:got everything this morning. we'll see how long it lingers over Cuba. if it doesn't.. (like the GFDL).. that could be problems. Should be an interesting 48-60 hours... !!!! nothing like a mix of excitement and a little fear to get your day going. Cat 1... we can handle. Cat 3.. no thanks!

In my opinion, even a strong tropical storm will devastate many areas if it goes anywhere near Dade/Broward (not too familiar with conditions in Monroe or WPB counties)..Many single family homes cant take the rain
