It looks like there may be a thick layer in front of it though:

In front is generally less of a problem than behind. Still, it kind of looks like it's pulling in some of the dry air round the south side ...

Jeff Masters....

Coast of Africa
The UKMET model is indicating the possible development of a tropical depression by Friday off the coast of Africa. There is a large surge of moisture with at least one strong tropical wave embedded in it coming off the coast of Africa this week, and it would be no surprise to see this wave develop into a tropical depression

This is the one to watch.

The UKMET model has this wave more or less stretching the itcz and smooshing 94L.

It's huge...and has plenty-o-moisture to work with.

I am placing a posting hold on 94L (for myself only) unless something changes with that system...this is the one to watch...

With this tropical wave are we talking about this cute little ball of convection?

Mike Watkins I couldn't agree more. I think we are wasting our time with 94L. The one to watch is this one. That is why I bumped this thread earlier this morning....

It's already starting to suck up moisture in from the ITCZ from the south. Should start to expand in coverage and draw alot of attention from this board over the next couple of days as it moves W at 10-15 mph.

I'm watching it closely.

Gatorcane~ since this seems to be forming more north of where Dean formed, what do you think of it's westward movement? maybe still following a more northly track similar to Dean or more of a WNW track in the coming days?

Blue circle on SFC Map

#33 Postby SoonerMaximus » Wed Aug 29, 2007 1:57 pm

I was wondering, what does the blue circle surrounding the identified low pressure area signify, as compared to the red oval around 94L?
I'd post it here, but it stretches the blog, so here's the link.

Or is this the wrong place to ask this question...

I so agree that this one is much more of concern than 94. I don't think SAL will do anything but perhaps take the edge off development early on, keep it from spinning north. This has Cape V. storm written all over it.

the convection is starting to merge with the ITCZ...-- a sign this thing wants to get going. I truly think this one will be our next Cape Verde system.....and its at a higher lattitude then both Dean and 94L.

94L may just be priming the environment ahead of this wave.
