So the new wave is what the GFS is showing development on? The one farther W seems to be more organized.

So, the distance between both waves is less than 10 degrees?

Looks like there is some Convection starting just where the new wave the GFS has been developing. Im not sure how long the convection is going to last but it has started in the last frame.

My opinion is that the GFS is latching on to the wrong area, the one farther west seems to be the one to watch

I do agree with you, i think that the both waves are so close i think that they will make one circulation or the one to the west is going to draw the one to the E to itself. But i guess the both will need to be watched. One of them will likely develop thats what matters the most. 8-)

Is this the wave that is coming off Africa, or the one further west?

It is too far away for me to care and it is too weak to send any swell to the east coast. Insignificant to me.

There's no there there.

How long has the GFS seen something to develop now?

The one just southwest of the Cape Verdes has a very distinct low level circulation according to Quikscat as of 0300Z with a west wind and all. Strongest east wind is about 20 knots, strongest west wind about 17.

wow...the 0z gives me chills...this is by far the strongest it has made this storm so far. It brings it down to 1000mb in the central atlantic, and then brings it just north of the virgin islands, continuing (sp?) to strengthen it, bringing it to less than 994mbs moving just east of the coast

Yes, the 0Z GFS has become very bullish on this wave. In past years the GFS had a tendency to jump the gun on Cape Verde development. Lets see how the week pans out:):)

This is at least the 3rd run in the last 36 hours that has brought it close to the US east coast...however, the runs have been progressively stronger each time

I see the swirl this morning but it has very little convection on it...http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/SAT_TROPATLEAST/anim8vis.html

I don't know - at the same time, the GFS shows an out-of-season northeaster on Day 6, so, it's hard to believe a forecast so far in advance, since it's likely not to turn out as it looks today...
