I'll be 49 in a couple of months and just shy of my 8th birthday my Dad took me and my older brother out in the eye of Hurricane Cleo in 1964.. The eye wall was incredible.. Like a verticle wall of darkness just swirling about the sky... We lived in a suburb of Miami at the time and the front side of the storm had taken down a 30 foot Ficus tree in our front yard,,, The quiet of the eye was what caught me and I have been tracking storms ever since... 41 years of Hurricanes....

A'ight...
I'm 23 and have been following tropical cyclones since 1995. (This being my 11th year.) Out of those 11 seasons, only nine months were spent in a cyclone-prone area: Mississippi. I originally started my passion of tropical cyclones back when I was in Missouri, I was following Hurricane Erin. Regardless, I've been actively watching the weather (including winter storms and thunderstorms/tornadoes) for 18 years. As for operational forecasting... five years for places all over the globe.

OK, OK, I'll include my personal info
22 yeard old. Tracking since 1993. And by tracking, I mean basically sacrificing spending any time with friends to do so, could I could learn (basically, my life has been trop met for a long time, I just now get paid for it). Didn't start posting on any boards until I was in college (and started to learn the dynamics of these systems).
For the kids, this how I'd suggest going about your pre-learning phase. Spend 100% of your free time on this, at the expense of your friends even, and listen to what the mets are saying. trust me from experience, this method works

56, watching storms since Hazel hit sc/nc line in the early 50's, really
started closely watching when I moved in Wilmington, NC in 1973. NC
people really follow storms, feel very high tension up there. Since transfer back to Charleston SC in 1990 just after HUGO, less tension but people are gun shy due to HUGO. But got the cane fever after living in NC. I feel that cane watch in high now, from my many years on cane watch I see a real change of cane danger starting to occur.
I don't post often but I think this site is the best one.
