Yeah...I am surprised at how everyone is kind of taking this nonchalantly in the media...if anyone knows South FL news...they love these moments to provide sensational stories and 24 hour coverage of the impending doom. Perhaps tomorrow.

If you remember, they were VERY slow to react to the track change by Jeanne on that Wednesday night. We saw the models and read the commentary but the local media stuck to the NW track even though models had shifted.
Until..... the next morning when they realized the track change.
I was very disappointed in the local Mets handling of that storm.

I'll be curious to hear what Bryan Norcross says.
We don't get him up here until there is wall to wall coverage when the local UPN picks up their feed.

If anyone watches him tonight, can you post his opinion???

I'm just not seeing this as an extreme threat to S. Florida...I think it's more a threat to the Northern Gulfcoast after it enters the gulf, that's who we need to be worried about. Not Miami, not Fort Lauderdale, not Palm Beach, not Fort Myers and Naples on the east and west coasts...we should be thinking of what may happen to the Northern Gulfcoast after it enters the gulf.

This really wont be to big for S. Florida, period.

A Cat 1 is a big deal here. It disrupts alot, as well as causing similar damage to Frances as this one will be moving very slowly as well.

Well Dr. Lyons said in the last Trop. Update to watch it very carefully b/c with the warm waters/low shear in the area it could become a lot more intense than forecasted.

Interestingly he said the Atlantic system (97? not even watching it) would prob. be a TS if it had a plane in it.

How is a Cat 1 in any part of a Florida a HUGE deal lol...I mean everything said and done it wont be horrible, not to down play the event but...I mean, it's not like it's something we aren't use to, even in Jupiter, I mean you're in a metro area, lots of goods and services there. However a Cat 1 between Jacksonville and Palm Beach, or in the Big Bend area, that's a fairly big story, because they are generally poor and less populated. However, anywhere on most of the East Coast, and between Tampa and Marco Island on the west coast...a cat 1, not a huge deal.

a CAT 1 would create widespread power outages here and other flooding issues....it should not be underestimated..

Let's remember how Dennis created some widely scattered power outages in Dade and Broward andit was a couple of hundred miles to the SW.

Agreed chris. Cat 1 is in no means a danger, but very much an inconveniance, ala Frances.

I am really not liking this situation at all. Tonight it is clearly organizing but the convection may fire later tonight in response to the more organized circulation. It has a couple of hundred miles of very warm water ahead of it with RELAXING shear and it looks like it is starting to overpower the ULL so it WONT be a factor.

Some time ago, before Kevin was born, hurricane David (CAT 1) came across Savannah. Power out for some for over a month.

In Boynton Beach last year we had border line cat 1 conditions twice .... guess what we lost power for 9 days. People lost buisness and houses. Lots of people still have blue tarps up. I still have a stinking Queen Palm that needs to be righted (no one will do it). Trust me a cat 1 is a big deal. Ask the business that have to shut down for days.

Dennis caused 40-50 mph gusts here in Palm Beach county and it was 200 miles to the SW
