It really hasn't moved much at all in the past 18 hours. I would expect little movement today with a slow drift to the west or northwest Saturday and Sunday as the overall steering flow becomes more southeasterly. Could bring some rain to the upper Texas coast late Saturday and especially Sunday.

If that deep convection continues for much longer we will probably see a sheared system develop.

twc shows a low where the convection is but with everything else going on in the tropics nobody is really talking about it.

I'm amazed to see a hanging GOM front not develop in prime season.

Danielle going to category 4 should mean the lingering GOM unfavorability should shift soon.

Something is happening, SW Pass is showing a 27 kt South wind.

And they're not in a storm at the moment.

It is possible that we could see an invest if it persists this evening. Still just a broad surface trough extending all the way from the Mexican coast to near the mouth of the Mississippi.

Looks quite impressive this morning. I think we can't rule out a sheared system out of this.

Is this whole system itself drifting eastward, or the cloud tops just getting blown off in that direction?

There have been ominous black clouds all over the gulf south of Gulfport and Biloxi all morning. It's raining pretty heavy now. Nothing much to speak of north of I-10. Looks pretty rough though. I had to pop in here to see if there was anything brewing out there.

Little movemnt with the trough axis. You are seeing the upper level westerlies blowing the tops off to the east.

20-30 knots ... yeah, I would definitely call that some shear.

There is definitely a spin right on/off the SE LA. coastline. IMO

Radar confirms the "spin" right off the SE LA. coastline.
