Hey there!!
I was noticing that blob of convection over the northwest Gulf during the past few days with a surface trough embedded within that feature. Sounds like you got some wet weather there, but today's rain looks like a huge and possibly dangerous ordeal.
There is more trouble brewing in Houston's northwest suburbs with intense rain rates and thunderstorms, some severe on this Saturday. 1.2-1.5 inch per hour rates in northwest Harris County according to doppler estimates. This could mean very high rain totals in this region in a short period of time. While individual cells ahead of the line are moving north northeast bound, the line itself is stalled and training over the same spot in nw Harris County and across south central Montgomery County. This could mean flash flooding becomes a real possibility as we roll through the afternoon. In fact a flood statement for an urban small stream flood advisory has already been issued to cover this and I'll post it here now.
HE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LEAGUE CITY HAS ISSUED AN URBAN AND
SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR NORTHERN HARRIS...WALLER AND
SOUTHERN MONTGOMERY COUNTIES UNTIL 115 PM CDT SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
AT 1115 AM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL FROM WALLER AND
BROOKSHIRE TO TOMBALL TO WOODBRANCH. THESE STORMS WERE BEGINNING TO
TRAIN OVER THE SAME AREA. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR
ARE LIKELY.
FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN OR NEAR...
WALLER...BROOKSHIRE...JERSEY VILLAGE...TOMBALL...SPRING...THE
WOODLANDS...PORTER HEIGHTS...
This could be upgraded to a flash flood warning if this trend continues with the heavy training repeating rains.
Meanwhile we can't buy a drop of rain here in Maryland these days and reservoirs are starting to slip as a result. Groundwater supply is beginning to lack with a drought watch up for north central and eastern Maryland. Baltimore is 7.33 inches down for the year and that number will rise quickly in the coming days with dry weather and hot conditions in the forecast.
Be careful out there and if on the roads, "turn around don't drown." Have a safe weekend.

We got a few sprinkles yesterday morning but that was about it. Nothing since. And it was boiling today.
And the NWS says 50% tomorrow and 60% Monday? They better be right.

Hey there.
Yea it looks like that complex of storms situated over north central Texas will track towards the southeast and remain near severe levels through late tonight as it moves rapidly into southeast Texas The area affected by these include the northern suburbs of Houston or from Lake Livingston north and west into the College Station area. Strong gusty winds and heavy rains are the main threats with this.
Outflow boundaries left from overnight thunderstorms could focus new development of storms over southeast Texas later Sunday. Main threat with these storms will be heavy rainfall with 2-3 inches a good possibility.
Glad everything is back up for you Yankee!!! That was some potent storms earlier today, probably alot of lightning just gauging what I was looking at.
Have a safe weekend everyone!!!

Hopefully you get some much needed moisture, you folks got a huge deficit down there from what I understand.
For the year so far, Baton Rouge has only seen 11.25 inches of precipitation. The normal is 30.23 inches making for a huge deficit for the year of 18.98 inches.
In New Orleans, just 13.20 inches of precipitation fell this year to date. The average is 29.97 inches giving them a 16.77 inch deficit. This deficit is more of a blessing than anything else for New Orleans and alot of the Katrina affected areas since the clean up and restoration efforts can be done quicker and more effectively.
Bottom line, hopefully you get at least some much needed moisture, any little bit is gonna help in this case given this extreme drought in place. We could use some rains here in the Mid Atlantic also. A 7.44 inch deficit in Baltimore, MD for the year, 0.83 inch deficit for the month of June. Groundwater, streams, and to less of an extent, reservoirs are starting to feel this deficit.
I'll issue a drought report later in another thread.
Take care.

It definitely looks like a damaging wind threat, lots of lightning, and heavy rains, especially from Houston north and west late tonight. More thunderstorms with heavy rains and possible flooding could take place later Sunday as storms originate along old thunderstorm outflow boundaries. However areas further east really could use this rainfall, just a steadier rain given the extreme drought in places like New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Mobile.
