Information purposes only - not an opinion on past or future storms. Just a comparative to consider.

2004 as of Sept 4th 9/6/4 Next storm Jeanne 9/14 remainder of season 6/3/2.

2005 as of Sept 4th 13/6/4 Next storm Nate formed on 9/6 remainder of season 15/09/3.

2006 as of Sept 4th 5/1/0 Next storm ?

2004's Sept was 4/4/3 - 2005's Sept was 5/5/2 Both were powerful months where every named storm became a hurricane and 56% of those became majors. This is the month that will determine 2006 IMO.

UPDATED THROUGH MONDAY, I WILL BE OUT OF POCKET UNTIL TUESDAY. HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND! :D

Wow that put it into perspective well. And that 1 for hurricanes in 06 was for only 5-6 hours. It has been very slow. Very unexpected. Well have to see what happens in september.

Nice number of named storms, but the devastation is not anywhere near 04-05 levels, lets hope it stays that way.

NOTHING TO UPDATE, MY HEART SAYS SEASON CANCEL, MY HEAD SAYS NOT YET...

If we get to the 15th of OCT with same patterns in place, I would rule out any more majors affecting CONUS. JMO.

I think it is just the opposite for many people around here. Their head / brain says cancel but their heart, or their love of tropical action, says not just yet. This inability to seperate what they want, and what will happen, is what clouded everyone's mind about the El Nino effect early on.

I think it just takes time and experience to learn to be unaffected by what one wants and what one thinks. I think it would be unlikely that we don't have at least one or two named storms the remainder of the season. Could be completely over, but I would expect at least one more...

The 2006 Hurricane Season is comparable to 2000 or 1996. In 1996, we did not see Josephine until early October. I read the 1996 season had an ACE that is considered very active. The thing is we are use to a more active season with many hurricanes forming, since 2003. 2003, 2004, and 2005 are considered very active seasons.

what is scary about 2005 is that in just Oct and Nov, it pumped out more storms that we have seen this entire hurricane season in 2006 so far. Unbelievable.

It sure is. In September of 2002, eight storms formed, which is a lot for less than active season.
