I am in awe of Kevin Cho's graphics for his forecasts. I love EATS IN and GUTS OUT even thought I haven't seem them lately. I actually miss WX Risk and his smart ass behavior...but at least we still have Derecho. I can respect Derek's constant professionalism always playing it straight. And let's not even get started with Cyclone Eye....when does this man eat? When does he sleep? And a big Yahoo for Chad and his crew and all the mods. There are so many more of you and don't be offended if I didn't mention you because I am just getting tired of typing...lol. This should be marked post of the year, fantastic post!

Thank you Rainydaze for saying a lot of the things I've been wanting to say, but haven't due to fear of being locked down :D.

I love to post, but and I love tropical weather of all kinds, but am feeling increasingly intimidated for venturing opinions and starting those new posts you mentioned.

I love S2K and am a supporter and always mention the site in my magazine and newspaper articles about weather. Long live S2K and lets remember why we come here daily.

The part about "accept people for who they are" is actually entirely the issue and the reason for this post. I have heard countless times from many people on here about "how I want a long tracker major fish." Well now we have it and it could be a record-breaking size storm but very few actually take the time to comment. Those people you mention are actually the ones that love to track storms no matter if they make US landfall or not. Your post assumes you are accepting those people for their hypocrisy

Gatorcane, many of us are readers and also what we may want to say has already been said so it would be redundant to say it again just to have a post. I'd rather just sit back, watch and read than post every little thought that comes into my mind.

Great post rainydaze.

And where I am? Hard to believe but I do have a separate live away from the internet. I have been working from 7 to 3 and then after school running the girls to ballet classes and soccer practices. I do check in but haven't really posted anything this week. Doesn't mean I am not reading here though.

Bingo! Image

And as to the first post of this thread, it should be common sense that if there is a potential for landfall, more people will be interested/concerned. I see some of the same faces (well, names) here every day...those are generally the "weather freaks" as I call them. I've been called that all my life as well. Anyway, those are the ones who will likely watch/track any TS/cane, give or take a few stragglers. That doesn't mean there will be more posts (see Frick's post above).

But to act like it's a shocking event that many people only care if it has the potential to make landfall is crazy, IMO. Of course the average person cares more if it could make landfall near them or near people they know. This is to be expected and seems so logical to me. MOST people aren't interested in weather that will never affect them and MOST people use Storm2k as a resourceful tool when something *could* potentially affect them.

Most people don't care about weather in the middle of an ocean.

I'm still here. Quieting tracking the storm, waiting for it to make that turn and making sure nothing else crops up.

I'll be actively watching the tropics 'til Nov.!

I think the reason its so queit is that its for now just a disorganised 50mph tropical storm. Now if it was this queit and we actually had a major hurricane on our hands I'd be suprised, but right now all we have ais a possible major hurricane...the same way ernesto and Chris could have been majors!
Though i don't think Florence is going to go the way of those two and could well actually get to where those two didn't reach!

I wouldn't be concerned or posting about a blizzard in the Northeast because well, it would not effect me....same logic goes to a storm that will not effect most in the U.S....I just don't know why this shocks or upsets anyone...

I'm here all year and try to check everyday, I just don't post very much, I'm still learning and would rather just read and try to learn on my own as time permits.

Rain, excellent post!

I admit to being one of those who only care if the storm is going to trash my house. I am uniterested in storms that go elsewhere. I like this board because it gives me a head up on making preparations and some good advice on how to prepare. If a storm is going elsewhere it becomes a footnote. I am not unsympathetic to others, but I look at this site as an information resource.

One thing I did learn is that there are a lot of people out there who are VERY interested in the weather because they just find it interesting. If it makes you happy then good for you. I don't get it. But, I find the history of airplanes and airplane propulsion fascinating, and my wife thinks I am nuts. And don't get me started about my Home Theater. (Honey, just one more upgrade....) Have fun and be joyful in your pursuit.
