This isn't over yet it seems. This is an important new development?

Omg.

But why the hell should the NHC have to chose between quikscat and recon data? It seems to me that the whole NHC should get behind Proenza and demand funding for both instead of caving in to the pressure from NOAA.

Definitely agree... they need both and shouldn't have to choose.

3 Sr. forecasters at the NHC want Proenza to step down. He says he won't resign.

With Avila, knabb and most of the NHC forcasters not being happy with the situation i think Proenza's job at the NHC could very well be short lived.

So has Avila called for his firing too? Because if so that makes 4... 4 out of 5. It's certainly 3 out of 5.

I don't think he'll survive the season.

I wonder what Proenza did besides bringing attention to the dire state of QuikScat to provoke this? Or maybe it's just that everyone was happy with Max Mayfield and really anyone taking his place is going to not live up to him?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Forecaster Lixion Avila, who ignited the public phase of the rebellion Monday night in comments to The Miami Herald that were critical of Proenza, said Tuesday that he was not ready to join the call for Proenza's departure.

''I've lost a little bit of faith in him,'' Avila said, ``but I don't want to be part of his removal or support him to stay.''

Meanwhile, in State College PA, a certain Joel Myers and his cohort have to be heh-hehing and rubbing their hands and licking their chops about now.

You have to ask yourself what's going on behind the scenes at NHC.

Proenza made his bed and it's time to lay in it. I fully support the forecasters at the NHC.

Sounds like a very chaotic situation at the NHC...

Oh yeah, he committed the unpardonable sin, he embarrased his higher ups! And now, we have to find legit reasons that the public will accept to get rid of him. Imagine the pressure on the forecasters to play ball. And now look at those who have any connection rushing to the defense of the indefensable. When this story broke, in its original context, almost everyone could see that Proenza was right. Now, we have to look at things through the Govt Blinders. They'll find a way to put someone tame in there, the public be damned. This is way too monolithic, and as one poster said as he praised Proenza on this 4th of July, almost unamerican. Just move the damn agency back to Wash DC. It can be a part of homeland security. Maybe they can furnish everyone with FEMA trailors.

The way Proenza has been treated
by others is highly unfair and unjust...

Tampa, I want to say again what a pleasure it is to read your posts. They are very appropriate to a fourm called "Talkin' Tropics", which I assume is for amateur followers of tropical weather. Funny how sometimes you feel like you have to apologize for being an amateur. Sometimes I feel the same way. And yet this forum is ostensibly for people like us. One argument is that we'll "learn" from all of the numbers mumbo jumbo. But it seems like many are now too intimidated to post. But you are not, and I congratulate you for that.

I'm with you. Proenza spoke the truth! And he's about to find out what speaking the truth gets you under this administration...
