Had to drive my girls to school here in Davie today because the smoke was so thick my 16 yo couldn't breath. There is a fire out in the everglades, and it is just pumping the smoke this way.
YUCK...
Please send the rain down....

Lets just hope Andrea provides some much needed rain for Fla and Georgia. According to the NHC's 5 day track, rain should be in good supply through this weekend......MGC

Wouldn't it be nice if Andrea backed-down the Florida coast. :D

I hope that moisture and covection expand over a large area
and that Andrea stays over water so it's convection can
grow over a larger area
so FL can get a larger area of rain
once it hits the coast to reduce
the drought.

The track looks VERY promising so far, but we need it to pick up a LOT of water in the "warm" waters before it runs down the coast! It doesn't appear to have much rain in it as yet.

Happy start to '07 season

My wish is for 3 or 4 mild tropical storms over the next few months to put an end to this drought. We need rain badly. 8-)

Great for moisture starved Florida 8-) You guys will need to see alot more of these to alleviate your drought, though. The season jut couldn't wait o get started. If Andrea had formed closer to the GOM she'd be on her way to becoming ahurricane

I've seen tropical storms form early as January. I bet the media will hype this one.

For the rest of us in the rain-parched south, I hope Andrea follows closer to the BAM model... though I realize that may be one of the less likely of the tracks.

The media always does. They are always looking for the next big story, the next scoop.

Andrea has the potential to be good news for drought-stricken areas, but we don't need 10 inches of rain in a short period of time.

All I can say is that it's about time they gave her a name. I wouldn't bet on it being much of a rain-maker, though.

They already are. Many of them calling it a "tropical storm" instead of subtropical storm.

Indeed. The local news media refers to Andrea as a "tropical storm" and follows that with a story about storm preparation, including the nice stock footage of floods and EMS officials. Hold on...the third story is about a hurricane conference. I'm not saying stories about preparation are a waste of time, but it is interesting to see the local media hop all over this as though Andrea were at Cat 3 sitting off the Mississippi coast.

You are correct. Convection has diminished considerably since this morning (and it wasn't too good then, either). Winds appear to be dropping. The NHC killed it by calling it Andrea. Looking at the latest buoy reports encircling the storm, I'm seeing more 20-30 kt winds now. Don't see any more 35kts or higher. IF there are any TS-force winds left, they're not covering a large area.

A interesting question I will ask to our resident pro mets. How if any,the smoke of the fires in SE Georgia and Northern Florida may or not affect the system?

2 ways:
-Smoke and dry air lessen moisture
-Heat from fire enhances convection

going to be a confusing set=up

Ditto that! We're finally getting sprinkles in Savannah, but certainly not anything major.
