They're in the business of logging, charting, keeping track of, and "reporting" on these storms. A consequence of a job well done might be that lives can be saved; but the individuals who physically save lives are those first responders, be they police, fire dept. Red Cross, or just a very valiant and helpful neighbor.

I'm not about to slight the work they do, it's a tough job at times; but like one can tell a policeman, a fireman, a teacher, or a member of the military--you knew what you were getting into when you took the job--or you should have.

It'd be nice if we all could take "as long as we want" to do the work for which we are paid.

Is it really that big a deal that these reports are not coming out as quickly as you wish they were?I highly doubt the NHC is slacking around,I'm sure they have a good reason to why it's taking longer than expected.

Not really, at least not to me; but I don't quite understand all the umbrage over simply wanting a report 6 months or longer after the storm is over. Katrina took 3 months I don't see why these others are taking so much longer... just my opinion, albeit I'm certain that while it means little beyond a curiosity to me, there are those to whom it is doubtless more important.

The mission statement says it all.

Indeed it does, as do the idealistic "missions" of just about any profession. I just feel the "analyses" might better "mitigate property loss and improve economic efficiency" by being a little more timely.

A lot of people have a lot hinging in the balance waiting for these reports, and I grant you they take time and work--but seeing as how they were able to push out Katrina so fast, I can't understand why it's taking so long to do some of the others--particularly some of the earlier and smaller impacting ones like, as noted earlier, Franklin, or Harvey-- I am sure they have a reason for all this delay, I just feel it's not as "efficient" as it might be, given optimal performance. JMHO.

Another page with the list.Let's see if we get reports this week as only 6 of them are left.

Actually it has been remarkable that they haved released 24 reports of the 30 already as they have to work on those in a hard way adding in detail all the data into them. The only thing occuring in the past 3 weeks is that only one report has been released in that timeframe however I think that some of this delay may be because some of the specialists are out in conferences and tours with the hurricane hunter.

Now that's a more realistic probability, and one I could understand. I just wish we'd get more in soon...as season 2006 approacheth with frightening rapidity, and some of us would like cloture on 2005, thanks.

I agree CY. These guy/gals have been busting their butts for almost a year given the extended season. A little R&R never hurt anyone.

No real surprise with Emily - they definitely had data to prove she was Category 5.

It sure is unbelievable that we had so many cat 5's, but I guess there were many that suspected Emily would be upgraded.

Comes as no big surprise; I think we all expected it. Now the question is... what will Rita be classified as... I'm sticking with 3... but we shall see.
