Ad Novoxium, I was talking about getting the record, 182 did have a very high ACE but was still way behind 1950 and 2005, 7-8 majors probably aren't needed if you have plenty of cape verde cat 1s/2s but really you do need to have 6+ majors to get into the top 10.

By the way 1998 is joint 10th all time with 1887 at 182.

Ah alright.

And half of me wants a comparative chart of July ACE storms, for recording purposes. Hard as this may be to believe, not only is Bertha nearly there to knocking off Felix, it's almost there to knocking off Dennis (18.8). Emily, however, had 32.9, which I simply don't see Bertha reaching, unless this thing becomes the second coming of Ginger.

Just created an Excel sheet in which I can just put the intensity of the system and it will give me the ACE. It will make my life much easier for the future.

I'm slow for some things!!!

It's just that first I thought that I was only going to do Bertha but now it appears that ACE is becoming very popular and for the future I want to have an easier method.

Ace is a much better system of telling about a storm and a season then simple numbers.

I agree Matt, I use the ACE as a better indication as whether a season is active or not. Still bertha is a good start, with such an early season long tracker the odds strongly favor an above average season already.

55 knots = 0.3025 ACE

19.59 + 0.3025 + 0.3025 = 20.195

Yep looks like its going to break the 20 mark, very impressive and I believe only 2nd behind Emily for the largest ACE racked up for a July hurricane...if 94L forms this will also be one of the most active July's ever for ACE only behind the freak that was July 05.

If in the next 5 days the intensity remains on average at 50 knots, then

50 knots = 0.2500 ACE X 4 X 5 = 5 ACE

If I did the numbers right, the Top Ten for ACE this decade goes:

#1: Ivan (70.4)
#2: Isabel (63.3)
#3: Frances (45.9)
#4: Fabian (43.2)
#5: Wilma (38.9)
#6: Alberto (36.9)
#7: Dean (35.2)
#8: Emily (32.9)
#9: Karl (28.4)
#10 Rita (25.1)

Assuming the 11 PM intensity remains at 60 knots.

The average for the next 5 days is 60 knots = 0.3600 ACE

0.3600 ACE * 4 advisories * 5 days = 7.2 ACE + 21.2175 ACE = 28.4175 ACE
