what strikes me about this invest are a few things..

a) it's the 2005 atlantic season...we just saw alpha...
b) wilma
c) the expanse of clouds shows potential for a large encompassing system
d) historical tracks point towards moving north
e) models picking up the development of a formidable system
f) great banding features already
g) apparently the waters are still warm, low shear also

Is Beta a female?? Was Alpha a male? Let's hope Beta doesn't follow in her sisters footprints and be a trouble maker.

Yes, Alpha was a male, so Beta will be female. Be careful, the women have been nasty this year! :slime: :sprinkler:

Nah, there's plenty of time to sleep from December to May.

Unless we have an early storm next year...or a late one this year....never mind, we may never sleep again.

LOL...Greek Letters do not have genders.

Thats like saying the letter K is a guy, but the letter L is a girl.

Alpha is a letter, Beta is a letter, Gamma is a letter.

True, but who's to say the Wilma has to be a female? Or Bret has to be male? It's just a convention (alternating female/male names). I see you're point, but we'll need to say "She's really organized now" or "His eye is awesome"...

The names alternate between male and female, since Wilma was female, Alpha is male and Beta is female, Gamma male, and Delta female. That is how we'll determine the gender of Greek storms.

Never thought you'd say that, you're always aggressive on these systems. Why do you think that?

Er, Wilma was no more female than Vince. They're clouds.

I'm sorry if I just offended anybody.

The whole point of naming a system is to give it a personality we can attatch to it through its' lifetime. It's a really neat idea and I'm glad it caught on because the names were what originally got me interested in storm tracking when i was a kid.

If you're going to name it Tropical Storm Alpha and deny that it ever had a true "name", can't be retired, and has no gender simply because "it's a letter, not a name!"...well, why name it Tropical Storm Alpha at all?

Why not just name it Tropical Storm 22L?
