Homestead reporting in.... Squally bands coming through since about 2pm today but not particularly heavy. We are in a dry spot now. Based on the level of the pool (my unofficial rain gauge), we have received close to one inch of rain. This storm gave us the first chance to put up our new storm shutters, I feel much safer! We have above ground power lines that often flicker in storms but have had no interruptions the whole day. So far, not nearly as bad as the afternoon storms in the past few weeks. There will be many people returning hurricane supplies at the Homestead Wal-Mart and Home Depot tomorrow!!!! :D

Bradenton, FL:

Humidity 75%
Pressure 1011mb

NO wind -- absolutely still air.
Heavy overcast with some cloud-to-cloud lightning right over us; frequent to very frequent cloud-to-cloud lightning to the north (over Tampa Bay) and northwest (over the GOM). Could almost read by it.

Just noticed a local hospital helicopter cruising by at a *very* low altitude.

Here in Port St. Lucie it has been raining since 11:30PM...A brief bit of a breeze when the rains began and then it calmed down. Now I hear some very loud thunder in the distance to the Southeast of me. Radar indicates possibly a large thunderstorm in a squall line approaching.

We really haven't had much rain, but I am feeling the gusts now.. I was hearing something when my accordion shutter was closed, and it was actually the wind pushing up against them!

Strongest gusts all night in last few minutes here in Fort Lauderdale....maybe in the 30-35mph range. Consistent with the 1am NWS observations.

ERNESTO

#75 Postby HURRICANELONNY » Wed Aug 30, 2006 6:40 am

Weird how Ernesto strengthen over land. Must be the swamps. I think the easterly shear kept him in check before landfall but now it has lessened. Have to see if the future track holds and intensity. Wouldn't be good for the northeast. They did well with the track at the end but of couse not the intensity. Well back to reality. Be safe. This ain't the last.

Gives a good picture of what is up while the 'center' appears stuck for a bit in NW Dade County at 0830. Finally getting some light gusts here in West Broward...almost 30 mph in last hour or so....

Since Ernesto moved onshore my winds have increased dramatically. Go figure. Gusts to about 40-45mph here with heavy squalls.

I'm in Delray Beach FL on the east coast....
